Ehhez a legalkalmasabb a szénbányászati ipar stratégiai szempontból is. Most children grow up in the present system with the Idea that the freedom of the working class rests on the capitalist class. Most of them think, that the capitalist could free us from wage slavery if they wanted to. Others know the capitalist, as greedy, erual men, who have have big fat stomachs and eat chicken, and other good things, while the workers eat hot dogs, hamburger and many times worst things too, because those are the things that can be bought from the meagre wages they are getting. There are still others who think that if the capitalist were swept from earth, the workers would have better times, and they wish that some one would come along and kill them, so the working class would become rulers of the world. But ha- we we ever looked on the other side of the question and reasond It out? We probably have not, so let us do it together. As is evident, the present economic conditions can not be Improved in any way by the capita- being slaves. The actuallist asr.h list class, or by wishing this or that. Furthermore, the capitalists themselves are not the direct cause of our starvation and of us being slaves. The actual cause of our misery is the wage system, wich most workers deplore for and tolerate. Therefore, the workers alone are responsible for the present conditions existing in the world. The capitalist could not free us if they wanted to. Suppose they did give up their wealth, but the system itself would remain as is, would not a new capitalism form? The only way we can free ourselves from the yoke of the wage system, by organizing In- dustrialy. Every worker can participate in this task by first thinking, reasoning and then organizing. Those who think that the capitalists ought to be killed or put in prison and their wealth be distributed among the workers In order to Improve conditions, are very unfortunate and very much missinformed. Talking about society in general, we know that there are two great classes struggling for the means of life. At present, the working class does the work, produces all the wealth, and the capitalist class does not work and have all the good things of life, by exploiting the other class. And this will go on, as longe as the workers remain uneducated, and unorganized. As long, as the workers ignore their class interests, they will not be able to free themselves from wage slavery. The struggle wich we know as the class struggle, must go on and will go on as long as “hunger and want are found among the millions of working people and the few , who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life. This is what the IWW teaches, and it is so the only means to emancipation. Organization, and for that matter, the IWW is the only salvation of the working class. Let us Juniors help our elders to flare the light of discontent among the workers and help them along to educate, by first educating all the Juniors we come in contact with. Let us make known that the working class and the employing class have nothing in common. Pull this two classes farther apart, until there will only be one class that remains victor, and that shall be the working class. Industrial depressions are helping us. As we have seen in many cases that no matter how good this question have been explained by our best organizers it did not in- lightened some of the listeners as much as the Industrial depressions did. In fact, some of our educators and organizers have been Jeered many times wich almost proves that the workers themselves are the enemy of their class. Also proves that they can not be taught by talking alone. When they are told that they do not get all they produce, they won’t listen. But as we see, in times of Industrial depression they begin to kollor and turne to the organized labor. Some of them remain block heads in spite of their misery. They scab on each other, and then they wonder why did they lose a strike. They come to meetings and they listen to a speaker, but when the meeting is over, they wonder, why they are not rich. This is an example of the stupidity of some of the workers. They expect the capitalist to throw free dom at them, and then put themselves under the yoke. It is very hard to make them understand, that capitalism will exist as long, as the workers remain unorganized. But as before said, the Industrial depressions waking them up. Thus the capitalist teach the workers more, than a whole set of trade unions put together. We noted that all the talking in the world, would not wake some of the workers, but if work stops and they find themselves outside of the factory unemployed for an uncertain time, then they begin to think. This proves that many of the workers can not be taught to think correct by — and his favor, — but experience in in the form of unemployment will teach them. Capitalism furnishes such experience often. Not because they want to, but because the system of production , namely the production for profit and not for the use, causes all the depressions from time to time. This is wy the workers slowly, but surely are becoming educated more and more until they begin organize the IWW and the time will be far off when they will also be able to emancipate themselfs from wage slavery. Of course if all of the Juniors would set out to educate those that were unfortunately missinformed about the existing system, than it will be much easier in later years to organize them. So let us go to it fellow juniors, make our organization strong, because organization is the means of emancipation. Junior card No. 15777 Cleveland, Ohio. --------o-------Editors Note The above article written by a very embittered young junior, was in the original , quite unfit for publication. It was too rash, exaggerated, and excessively cynical. We therefore censored a few unreasonable statements and unreasonable statements, and completelly eradicated others that were too impolite to be printed, thus saving our young writer from possible embarrassment. We are quite sure that if our fellow junior had read his letter over again, a few times, he would not have been so extremely severe in criticism of the working class. In one of our previous issues, we mentioned that in order to educate others, we must educate first ourselves. Likewise before we take it upon ourselves to cri- tice the thoughts and action of other people, it would be very beneficial to us to see if are we not also in need of criticism. It is all very well criticise, but this in itself is insufficient; and is hardly of any worth if we can not offer anything to better that which we are criticising. Criticism that accomplishes is constructive and this is the sort of wich we are in most need of. All in all we were very glad to have received this letter. — We think that in the future our young writer will not be so careless anymore.
