BENCE SZABÓ PRESCRIBED PUBLIC HOLIDAYS POLITICAL CELEBRATIONS OF THE RÁKOSI ERA IN THE MIRROR OF THE DOCUMENTS OF THE COUNCIL OF BÁCS-KISKUN COUNTY AND OF THE BOARD OF THE SOCIALIST PARTY The symbols of Hungary are the coat of arms of the Republic of Hungary, the Hungarian Flag, the stanzas of the Hungarian national anthem and the Second Hungarian national anthem, the coronation jewels and last but not least our national celebrations. The special days are official symbols of the statehood determined by the system of conceptions which the controlling power made the basic principles of the exercise of power and also the ideology of the political system represented by. Our former and present national and political public holidays show the previous eras of Hungary, as well as, the present social and political situations from a special point of view. Studying the historical role of Hungarian public holidays, the Socialist era, first of all, the autocracy of the dreadful dictator Mátyás Rákosi can be judged by a special point of view. In those times the extremely hierarchic structure of the system, the cruel method of seizing the power and the inhumanity could be experienced clearly. The administrative documents and data of the Hungarian history after 1948 can be detected in the essay. However, it has to be mentioned that on the one hand these are valuable sources, but these are also one-sided, exaggerated and unfair so they can be reviewed with some criticism and comment. The essay was not able to include the whole topic. Except for the quoted sources there are still a lot of valuable and interesting documents which can be found in the archive concerning the celebrations of the Hungarian Soviet Republic. ERZSÉBET APRÓ THE FIRST DECADES OF THE CIVIL ADMINISTRATION IN BÁCS-BODROG COUNTY After the Compromise of 1867 a civil state was established. The local administrational system had to be adjusted to that civil state with administrative laws in the first decades of the dualistic era in order to keep the influence of the large estates survived in consequence of civil transformation and to make it possible for the citizens of considerable means and the peasantry to enforce its influence depending on the local circumstances, as well. To maintain the balance the elections were disregarded and a closed group of the wealthiest people became the representatives and members of committees to enforce civil rights. The administrative seat of Bács-Bodrog County was in Zombor after the Compromise of 1867 and there was also the founders' meeting on 4 June, 1867.
