ERZSÉBET ERDÉLYI Surveys on the history of names of public places in Kecskemét The author has undertaken the name-database of the centre territory of Kec­skemét town during the organization, changing and extending after the period of Turkish rule up to the year of 1945. Rich archive documents are available for re­searches about motivations of the first creating of official street names and we can have a look into the name creator's work. Comprising the street names of the three nearby cities called Nagykőrös, Kecskemét and Cegléd explores the tendencies of name construction taking longer than a century. The method of analysing is dia­chronic but synchronic approaching is unavoidable when the author classifies and compares. Significant changes can be noticed in each interval taking 25-30 years in the background of which stand name sociological , settlement-, administrative- and name-historical motives. After historical groups of names come semantically and forms researches. The specific face of the street-system in Kecskemét had been set up by the second half of the 19 th century. The centenary starts the modernizing proc­esses that lead to the creating of names which were similar to precast panel con­struction. There were no motives when creating public domain-names but there were given prefabricated names. During the last decade some public domain names have been renewed so traditions succeeded in saving name creation. In the first part hydrographie and configu­ration of the terrain of Kalocsa could be found, then in the order of changes of structure of settlement from middle-ages to nowadays. Church constructing archi­tecture was very essential in the 18 l century, and later in the bourgeois period, as well. The image of Kalocsa has always been determined by these constructions.
