Data to the history of the national assembly elections of 1945 in the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Péter Újlaki The HCP, which was the first to be formed everywhere and strengthened structurally in a short time, headed the new life and democratization following the liberation of the territory under examination. Among the coalition parties the basis of HCP and SDP was constituted from workers and miners, that of NPP from poor peasants while SHP declared itself above-class. The former three parties wanted to finish with all the destructive heritages of the past for the sake of democratization. On the other hand SHP propagated the bourgeois way of life the formation of the classless and true democracy by which it understood something quite different from the Left and it meant the refusal of democratization virtually. The political struggle got especially keen during the electoral campaign of the parties, which began at the end of August. The struggle can be divided into two parts: before and after the period of the municipal elections in Budapest. In September the two workers’ parties dealt severely and inclose co-operation with the reaction and the SHP trying to conceal the actions of the reaction. The NPP helped the two workers’ parties. The SHP also attracted the workers’ parties and the NPP, trying to make them be discredited with the electors. The discrepancies between the left and right wings became more pronounced after the general assembly of the Small-holders’ Party on 9 September. On the election in the county of Borsod left-wing parties got more than 50 per cent of votes, so they could check the absolute majority of the SHP, but they failed to do so in the whole election district N§ 15 and what is more it was the SHP which got the most of the votes in the county of Abauj even considering the general election. The two workers’ parties did especially well in Miskolc and in the highly industrialized beds of Borsod, while they had much less effect on other places in the country as well as in Zemplén and especially in Abauj, and this was reflected in the quantity of votes for the SHP. By the day of the seat-distribution the workers’ parties organized a big mass- demonstration to warn and curb the reaction displaying the strength of working people and their determination to defend democracy. The evolvement of the counter-revolutionary aggression in 1956, the elimination of the local organs of proletarian dictatorship in Miskolc and in the county of Borsod László Kun By the second half of October 1956 two new revisionist centres were formed in Miskolc. One of them was the Committee for Organizing Workers in DIMÁVAG, the other was the Students’ Parliament formed at Heavy Industries Polytechnic University. These two bodies had accepted the documents of revisionist character. The documents 292
