Zsombor Jékely: The Museum of Applied Arts in 2013-15

Prizewinning Students - Exhibition of the Secondary School of Visual Arts 29 May-9 June 2013 As part of our cooperation with the Secondary School of Visual Arts, the Museum this year housed a display of their competition-winning students. In memoriam József Király October 2013 A small exhibition featured the works of contemporary furniture designer József Király, who passed away in 2013. The display included objects which were donated to the Museum by the descendants of the artist, and it coincided with the release of a new book on him, written by József Vadas. Ars Sacra 2014 September 2014 This year, the Museum of Applied Arts again joined the Ars Sacra Festival, held throughout the country. The festival provided an opportunity to present the 17th- century ivory statuette of the Virgin by Adam Lenckhardt, acquired by the Museum the previous year. Masterpieces from Athos - Ars Sacra 2015 22 September - 25 October 2015 For the Ars Sacra Festival this year, the Museum displayed miniature wood carvings associated with orthodox monks of Mount Athos and other locations, dating from the 16th— 19th centuries (see the essay by Szilveszter Terdik on p. 55 of the present volume). In the exhibition titled Tradition and Metamorphosis, his works were featured in the context of Javanese wayang puppets. Both exhibitions were accompanied by bilingual catalogues. In addition to exhibitions at home and abroad, the Museum of Applied Arts also displayed a large number of objects through loans to various institutions. Loans included a significant collection of Herend porcelain displayed in the permanent exhibition of the Herend Porcelain Museum, furniture at the Festetics Palace at Keszthely, other long-term loans at the Esterházy Palace at Pápa and at various museums.
