Events 2009-2010

Long Night of the Museums , 2009 could see the winner of the light painting competition invited to light-paint the Web and could take part in the "Gesamtkunst performance" on the "turf" under it for eight hours. In the summer the ceremonial room of the museum housed interesting talks on Thursday evenings: architects in­troduced themselves and their ideas, often in disputes; sometimes films were shown, e.g. of the Wekerle estate, a century-old and still exemplary initiative in Kispest. On the third weekend of September, on the Days of the Cultural Heritage several institutions that cannot be visited other­wise open their gates. Museums provide free entry and various programs. Since 2007 the Week of Sacral Arts also begins on this Saturday to which the Museum of Applied Arts usually contributes a chamber exhibi­tion and concert. The exhibition entitled Honey cake and Wax, curated by art histo­rian Balázs Semsey was based on the muse­um's own collection complemented with works from other ecclesiastic and public collections (first of all the Ethnographic Museum and the Kiscell Museum). With the help of honey cake and wax moulds, sil­ver and wax offerings, it explored a charac­teristic segment of 17-19th century sacral paraphernalia, the connections between the festive cake, prayer and the light-giving candle. Undoubtedly the greatest professional achievement of the year was the exhibition "Lilies sprung upon a barren rock": Hun­garian Art Nouveau Furniture Designers, which summed up the recent research results of the museologist of the Museum 137
