Twenty-five Years (1945-1970) of the Anthropological Department Hungarian Natural Historv Museum By Tibor TÓTH Anthropological Department Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest As a Department of the Hungarian .Natural History Museum, our institute exercises its general supervision, under the respective acts of the executive state authorities, on all matters pertaining to its field since a quarter of a century. Our authority extends to the salvaging, the museological elaboration and preservation of anthropological remains excavated within the territory of the country and obligatorily to be collected under the Ancient Monuments Act. In other words, should the given skeletal material be deposited for preservation either in our own Department or in county museums, our institute can exercise its authority, through the Director General of the Museum, in all pertaining respects over the local county museums. Moreover, in order to safeguard the general supervision and the depository rights, we are collaborating with the Chair of Anthropology, József Attila University of Sciences, Szeged, the Archeological Department of the Hungarian Historical Museum, and if needs be, with the Archeological Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
