Egy olvasó levele Mrs. Kingnek NEW JERSEY. — Ne haragudjon, hogy e pár sorral zavarom, de mint európai fehér ember, szeretném kifejezni Önnek és kedves családjának őszinte részvétemet. Meghajtom fejemet meghalt férje előtt, mert ő igaz és az igazságért harcoló becsületes férfi volt, aki ki mert állni az elnyomott és a fajgyűlöletnek kitett népek igazáért. Ö igaz, gyülöletmentes társadalomért harcolt és halt is meg. Remélem, hogy az az eszme — az igaz és gyülöletmentes békés társadalom — egyszer itt is győzni fog, mint sok kelet-európai államban 23 évvel ezelőtt. Ethel Soós DUNAÚJVÁROS It was my pleasure to visit Dunaújváros a new socialistic town on the banks of the Danube River in Hungary. This town was planned to keep the industrial smoke and residue from the residential area by keeping a forest area between the two as a buffer to keep the noise and smoke from injuring the health of the people. During the course of excavating for the foundations of this town over 1000 Roman graves were uncovered in which were many interesting relics of that era. Also relics belonging to the era of the Celts were discovered. These historical relics were placed in a museum for the people to see. The steel industry employs 12,000 in its practically automatic plants. Since man must operate the controls I say practically automatic. Here steel is produced from the source of the ore to the finished product of rolls of steel in all dimensions .to the very finest which is paper thin. The 4 fur- piaces produce 700,000 tons of steel per year. The .gases produced by these furnaces are directed .through an underground system to heat the homes, schools, hospitals and other establishments of the city. Besides the steel industry there are other industries one of which is the building industry Vhich employs approximately 3000 men. A house Is completed in about 5 to 8 months, including installation of complete bathroom and kitchen cabi- *nets and sink. Their cellulose factory produces *22.000 tons of cellulose annually. The paper mill produces 48.000 tons of paper annually. Amongst •light industry: the men’s clothing factory employs *1000 workers, mostly women. There is also a san- *dal factory, printing facilities, beer bottling works, auto servicing facilities, employing hundreds. The , n,r-o~f p’opf the watch factory. T'.ié rgncu’tural workers of the old town—the f ......r ru^ap^tete—are together in a.single colve farm, (he Red Star Farm which is completely mechanized. It is one of the good collectives of the area. Its prosperity is obvious from the many newly built, twin windowed modern homes. Welfare in the city of culture Dunaújváros is new, beautiful and cultured. One of every two persons is learning. The city is aware of the needs of the growing factories. The Duna Iron Works Institute, the Technical High School, a the Paper Industry Technical School, the Agricultural School is preparing specialitsts for the developing city. Each year there is a need for new schools because there is an above average population increase. There are 10,000 children attending school almost all of which are Of glass wall construction. The 7 Nursery schools and 17 child care centers are proving inadequate. There is a Music and a Ballet School. There are libraries, workers clubs, cultural centers and an outdoor theatre. The art exhibits are nationally recognized as of high calibre. Excellent restaurants, two hotels and camping facilities serve visitors to the town. Entertainmant for children is provided by an Amusement Park, the pioneer railroad and fine swimming facüities. The proud citizens make their town attractive with a great amount of volunteer work. Every citizen devotes at least 14 hours annually in volunteer services. Most recreational facilities and the Central Heating Plant were built by volunteers. The new apartment rentals 10,800 new apartments were built the past 17 years. Naturally these are all modern with built-in kitchens and baths with gas heating. 60% of the apartments are 3 rooms plus kitchen and bath, renting for 110 forints per month. Over 20% are 3 rooms plus kitchen and bath for 125 forints and about 20% are 1 room kitchen and bath renting for 90 forints per mo. KÉRDÉS: Megtagadták tőlem a munkaképtelenségi javadalmazást, mert az egészségi állapotomban javulás várható. Kértem, hogy ügyemet újra vizsgálják meg, de még eddig nem kaptam választ. Mivel a törvény megváltozott, kell-e most uj kérvényt beadnom? FELELET: Nem kell uj kérvényt beadni. Mikor az ön esetére sor kerül, magától értetődően az uj törvényt alkalmazzák és az oda vonatkozó körülményeket tekintetbe veszik. KÉRDÉS: 58 éves özvegyasszony vagyok és munkaképtelen. Soha sem dolgoztam a társadalombiztosítás keretében. Kaphatok-e valamilyen nyugdijat az uj törvény szerint*? FELELET: Nem kaphat, özvegyi nyugdijat csak 60 éves korban kaphat. KÉRDÉS: A férjem munkaképtelen és most értesítettek bennünket, hogy nemsokára kapunk társ adalombiztositási javadalmazást. Kék kis gyermekünk van és én dolgozom, havi 250 dollárt keresek. Elvesztünk-e javadalmazást, ha továbbra is dolgozom? FELELET: Ha tovább dolgozik, csak önnek, mint munkaképtelen dolgozó feleségének a javadalmazása változik meg. Férjének és a gyermekeknek a javadalmazása nem változhat, ha ön bármennyit keres is. KÉRDÉS: Néhány hónap múlva 65 éves leszek, de továbbra is szándékszom a vendéglők vezetni, amelynek tulajdonosa vagyok. Nem találom szükségesnek, hogy a társadalombiztosításnál jelentkezzem, mert úgysem lennék jogosult nyugdíjra. De a feleségem azt mondja, mégis jobb lesz, ha jelentkezek. Mit tegyek? FELELET- Annak ellenére, hogy saját üzletében tovább kíván dolgozni, több okból kifolyólag ajánlatos, ha most jelentkezik. Elsősorban azért, mert a Medicare-re jogosult lesz, tekintet nélkül arra, hogy dolgozik-e vagy sem, de egy hónappal a 65. születésnapja előtt kell jelentkeznie, hogy 65 éves korában ez életbe léphessen. Azonkívül, még ha az évi keresete nem is jogosítja nyugdíjra, ha megbetegszik és nem képes dolgozni, a havi nyugdiját minden további nélkül megkaphatja. KÉRDÉS: Csatlakoztam a Medicare önkéntes, orvosbiztositási részéhez. Voltak 50 dolláron felt is proper that we consider wages because in reality this describes the standard of living. Next year they plan to introduce a 5 day 42 hour work week. An exception is those crafts that are considered hazardous for health where a maximum 7 hour day is in effect. Health Services are excellent Only 2 years ago a modern 500-bed hospital was built. Out-patient facilities can handle up to 1200 patients per day. There is tuberculosis care, etc. There are 172 medical doctors. There are 10 medical and childrens medical districts in the town. The Iron Works employs 14 doctors full time. István Sofalvi, assistant city council president provided us with many interesting facts. “10—12 theatre groups are planning programs, the city has a Symphonic Orchestra, fireman’s and children’s orchestra, several movies.” Mrs. Imre Vida, head of the tourist department stated that 80—90,000 visitors arrive annually, both from the east and west. In conclusion Mr. Sofalvi stressed the international character of Dunaújváros. The town has friendly relations with other foreign towns and they visit each other. These friendly towns include Coventry (England), Osztrava (Czechoslovakia), No- vahuta (Poland), Termi (Italy), etc. The towns exchange experiences of common interest to each other. Finally the town now has nearly 50,000 population and is expected to reach 80,000 by 1980. Andy Báthory, Youngstown, O. lüli költségeim 1966 augusztusában. Van-e határidő a visszatérítés kérelmezéséhez ? FELELET: Van határidő. Az 1966 júliusban, augusztusban és szeptemberben nyújtott* orvosi szolgálatokért a visszatérítési kérvényt az 1968 március 31-i határidő előtt kell benyújtani. Az 1966 október és 1967 szeptember közöttó orvosi kezelésért, nem később, mint 1968 december 31- ig kell a folyamodványt benyújtani. KÉRDÉS: Férjem október 15-e óta kórházban van. A 90 napi kórházi biztosítása a Medicare keretében, nemsokára lejár és más biztosításunk nincs. Igaz az, hogy a Medicare most már minden egyes betegség esetén több, mint 90 napi biztosítást nvujt? FELELET: Ez igaz. 1968 január elsejétől kezdve a Medicare egy életre szóló, összesen 60 napi rezerva kórházbiztositást nyújt, melyből szükség esetén annyit lehet felhasználni, amennyi szükséges. A kórházbiztositás, e 60 nap alakt minden költséget megfizet, a napi 20 dollár költségen felül. KÉRDÉS: Anyámnak, egészségi állapotára való tekintettel kórházi ágyat kellett vásárolnia. Megfizeti-e a Medicare ennek a költeégét ? FELELET: 1968 január elsejétől kezdve a Medicare megtéríti a bérelt, vagy vásárolt egészség- ügyi felszerelések, tolószékek, kórházi ágyak, stb. költségeit. A megvásárolt dolgokért részletekben fizetik a visszatérítést, mintha bérelve lennének. KÉRDÉS: Egyik barátom azt mondja, hogy ez év március 31-e előtt kell a Medicare orvosi visz- szatéritéséért jelentkezni. Igaz ez, vagy sem? FELELET: A barátja igazat mondott, de a március 31-i határidő azokra az orvosi szolgálatok ra vonatkozik, amelyeket 1966 júliusban, augusztusban és szeptemberben kaptak. A 1966 október elsejétől 1967 szeptember 30-ig kapott orvosi szolgálatokért a visszatérítést kérelmező határidő 1968 december 31-e.
