August J. Molnár HUNGARIAN-SZEKELY DEPORTATION TO MOLDAVIA? In the Hungarian monthly, “Hadak Utján” in the October, 1971 issue the following is found: “West from Udvarhely in the Küküllő valley a power plant is being planned, which would make it necessary to evacuate seven villages. The villages are the following: Kis and Nagy Galambfalva, Bikfalva, Décsfalva, Agyagfalva, Bogárfalva and Magyaros. These villages located in the valley of the Réztető Mountain, a part of the tragic Hungarian-Szekely life, will disappear from the map. Even worse, according to the Bucharest plans, the population of these villages will be re-settled in Moldavia, forever (Continued on page 8) PASSAIC CHURCH SHARES IN HONORS NEW JERSEY JUNIOR MISS The Nemesnyik name came into the foreground, Synod- wise, about a year ago when Mr. John Nemesnyik, Associate Chief Elder of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Passaic, became Calvin Synod Presbyter. In November the family name once again came into prominence when daughter Ellen, after having entered a Junior Miss Contest — “just for the experience” — won the title of Essex County Junior Miss. This made her eligible for the all-state competition which was held at Newark State College in Union, N. J. in January, when she won the distinction of becoming New Jersey Junior Miss. These contests are based on scholastic achievement, personality, judges’ interview, talent, and physical fitness. As a result of these contests Ellen is the recipient of many prizes, among them almost two thousand dollars in scholarships to the college of her choice which is Muhlenberg College at Allentown, Pa. where she will major in genetics. In May, Miss Nemesnyik will appear in the National Junior Miss Pageant at Mobile, Alabama and you can bet we shall be watching her on television. Our best wishes follow her. Congratulations to Ellen and her proud parents. Our whole church shares in their joy and honor. NEW HUNGARIAN DENTIST Dr. John Vas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vas of Fair Lawn, N.J. — members of our Passaic Church — completed his medical studies a few months ago and is now practicing dentistry in Hackensack in an office adjoining his father’s laboratory. Mr. Joseph Vas is a dental technician. Dr. Vas completed his pre-medical studies in three years at Fairleigh Dickinson University where he had a full scholarship. He continued his studies at Fairleigh Dickinson School of Dentistry at Teaneck, N.J. and finished first in his class. Always having been an outstanding student he won many scholastic honors. Perhaps the greatest honor was that his Alma Mater requested him to return to the University as an instructor. Dr. Vas is married. His wife Adrian is in virus and cancer research at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He also has a sister, Agnes, who is currently studying at Fairleigh Dickinson and will soon join her professional family as a dental hygienist. The pastor and congregation are proud of the Vas family’s achievements. We extend to them our heartfelt congratulations and wish them God speed. Joseph Kecskemethy
