The main speakers were: Dr. László Berzeviczy, Dr. Harangi, Rev. Alexander Babos, the chief-elder Mr. Vince Egry and the local pastor. Choral selections were presented by the Church Choir and the Western Pa. Hungarian Ethnic Group performed Hungarian dances. The toastmaster was Mr. Zoltán Toth. Officers and delegations of the local and neighboring churches and organizations were presented at the Dinner. Congratulations to the Pittsburgh congregation. May the Lord give you many more years in His service. Francis Vitéz CAMP REPORT “I wanted to express my deepest thanks to you for getting me involved in Camp Kanesätake. I never really realized what real friendship was until I had the wonderful experience of meeting the kids at camp. It was like the difference between night and day when I realized how many of the kids at home that were friends actually turned out to be nothing but ‘fair weather’ friends. When a group of strangers take me in and accept me for what I am with no questions asked, as the kids at camp did, it makes a guy really see what life, love and Christianity is all about. At camp I found that who you are and where you are from doesn’t matter, it is what you are inside that counts. The kids at camp started out as strangers but grew into the deepest of friends. Camp opened my eyes to all the beautiful people that are in this country and with kids like those SYNOD NEWS at camp, the world has got a darn good chance of becoming a nice place to live in once again. I have changed during my week at camp and I don’t think I will ever be the same as I was before. I wish everyone in the world could have the beautiful experience that I had at camp. If they could this world would be a better place to live in. So once again I will say thanks, for I am eternally indebted to you for that unique and wonderful week at camp. ‘Wild horses’ could not keep me away next year! Peace be with you! Gary Egger * Congratulations to the Rev. and Mrs. L. Medgyessy on the birth of their daughter. * Rev. Louis Novak resigned after forty years of service in Lakeland, Florida. * We wish a speedy recovery to Rev. Alexander Daroczy, former superintendent of the Bethlen Home, who is recuperating from an operation. It is now known that 24 churchbuildings, two church centres and 21 manses were completely or partially destroyed. The damage is estimated at just over 5 million forint (approx. $450,000). The church districts which were not affected by the floods have committed themselves to raise 2000 forints a month towards reconstruction work in the stricken areas. RPPS HOW MUCH WILL YOU GIVE FOR YOUR CHURCH'S WORK IN 1971? Over 700 of your fellow members chosen as delegates to the General Synod of the United Church of Christ suggested that 5% or more of annual income would be a sensible standard. WHAT DO YOU THINK? P.S. As you think about it, please remember that due to inflation, here and overseas, work that cost $500 during the past year will cost about $550 in 1971. So you will be voting for your church to cut back its work by about 10% if you give the same amount next year as this year.
