THE BIRTH OF OUR KING. “The world of to-morrow is to be your world, young people, and you have a right to a voice in the decision as to the kind of world it shall be.” These words from William Shaw are discerning and predictive. They portray the significance of the dire necessity of youth in serving mankind. The world has aged considerably in spirit in the last few years. It is now struggling with numerous and obscure oppressing and depressing- social and economic problems. It depends on the spirit of youth to conquer and subdue forever the threats of dhaotic calamity that is facing the entire universe. But youth alone is not adequate. The mainstay of youth, in conquering these menacing obstacles, lie in the unification of the young people under the descipline and teachings of Christ. The Christian Endeavor society deals with this most esteemed and desireful of the worlds’ values, Christian youth. The foundation has been solidly constructed. It remains for us to build on; and build incessantly. Lesson: Matt. 2:1-15. The sweetest and most lovable story on earth is the story of the birth of Jesus. It is so simple, so amazing and so divine! Read it again, verse by verse, thinking about, digesting each sentence. There are no big, polished words in it; every phrase is clear, every expression concise. Try to imagine the number of times this absorbing story was read and told, and by how many people! As the fleeing years flit by us we begin to feel more and more the grandeur and sublimity of this old, old story. Each Christmas seems to leave a distinct impression of it upon our impressionable and sensitive souls. Each recounting makes it more kaleidoscopic. In the faraway hills of historic Judea lived a sturdy, stout-hearted carpenter, Joseph and a good, lovable woman, Mary. The one the finest example of robust manhood, the other the noblest symbol of true womanhood. To be chosen the parents of our king was a just reward for their fidelity and faith. The homage posterity days them, the tribute the children of men shower upon them, they well deserve. To me Jesus, the babe in the manger, always represents a golden connecting-link between a distant Father and His weary, lost and struggling children. In that shabby, dilapidated stable God seems to have embraced His wandering and erring creatures and planted Himself permanently into the hearts of men, in the person of the baby, Jesus, His only Son. Because of this loving embrace and tender kenosis we know that God is and that He is love. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh When thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” — Ecclesiastes 12:1. Let ns prudently heed this warning. Let us get down on our knees, young people, and thank God for the privileges that await us in various realms of modern activity. Already a new life is manifest in the ethical, social, political, commercial, psychological and physical developments of the day. There are great days coming for the rising generation. Let us pray with all our strength we may be ready for and equal to the part in the almighty drama which God has already chosen for us. Let us prepare to face new conditions and new circumstances with greater zeal and 'hope. “For youth is greater than age as hope is greater than history.” In such words does Dwight W. Morrow express the relative importance that youth must play in the future development of the Universe. Joseph Szopo. Expert Printing Co. tS 4829 Second Avenue PITTSBURGH, PA.
