8 AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA LIFE IS REAL! LIFE IS EARNEST! ■ It may seem strange, that the words of the poet appear as the heading of these few lines. Strange as it may seem, we Christians know, how. true these words are. Life is real, with all its problems, all its achievements, all its sufferings, all its temptations. All around us things happen, which compell us to realize the fact, how real life is. In Budapest, a brilliant boy of 15, murders his mother. Terrible, you say. It is! He is a boy with good heart. But life, sinfull life, in his case the only real life was cruel to him. He became a victim of circumstances; he became a murderer. Lynchings seem to be a frequent occurance in this land of the free. Many people misunderstand the principles of freedom. Freedom without law1' and Christian principles is a dangerous things. Life is real, very much so and we must play the part, we are entrusted with, with all seriousness, having constantly in mind, that we must play our part fair, never for a momment must we forget, that we must observe rules. Yes, rules. Even in games of sports, rules must be observed. Without rules, or with rules disregarded, -we can’t play fair, and not only that, there is no joy in playing any kind of game. I can not forget the illustration, used by one of the ministers, who spoke before the Congregation of our Akron hungarian people, during the installation service of Rev. Árpád Bernáth. A boy, with his mother watched a very interesting ball game. The boy was aglow with interest and enthusiasm. The mother watched the game, but her expressions did not show any interest. It was quite evident, that the mother did not appreciate the efforts of the players. Finally the son, somewhat dissappointed, turned to his mother w'ith the question: Mother, don’t you know the rules at all? Yes, that was the trouble. The game was interesting, the players played a brilliant game, and yet the mother did not get anything out of it, because she did not know the rules. My young friends, Boys and Girls! I could not help, but to think, how much of the beauty, of the wonders of life the young people of today, I should be more specific, Christian young people of today miss, because they do not know, or observe the rules of Christian living, the rules, which are to be found in the Bible, God’s rule book. We do not know the rules, because we do not read them, if we now the rules, and ignore them, it is about the same as if we would be totally ignorant of them. Christian people of to-day, — in our Hungarian churches as well as in other churches, — miss the beauty, the interesting things in life, because they do not know, or ignore the rules of the game, life. Many young people prefer to make their own rules, ignoring the rules of God and Nature. They think it is smart not to listen to the words of the wise and experienced. They forget, that it is smart to obey the rules, the laws of God, and it is foolish to ignore these laws. If all the church people, young and old would play the game of life, outside of the church as well as in their organized church life, our ministers, church leaders, our various church organizations would be more successfull in their efforts to make this life as interesting, as worthwhile, as successful, as it should be. Then, — some of you will ask, — then why don’t we play fair, why don’t we observe rules, why. . . why. . . why. . . ? We could go on indefinitely with the why. ..s! And the writer of these lines also asks with you, young people, WHY DONT YOU TRY TO PLAY GAME OF LIVE ACCORDING TO THE TRIED AND PROVED RULES AS CONTAINED IN THE BIBLE? A slogan is spreading all over the United States: “It is smart to be legal”. Why not adopt another slogan: It is smart to be Christian, it is smart to play the game of life, as Christians should play, make it smart to live according to the teachings and rules of the Bible. We can do it, if we try, and WE SHOULD DO IT. Shall we? What is your answer? Your friend, N. Laky. C=S3Q □ 1=31^=] ES=0 LEGÁCIÓBA AJÁNLKOZIK.
