Reading different articles in the Reformátusok Lapja, I have found very interesting work being carried on in many societies and C. E.’s. Lectures are held at different meetings by capable, well renown educators on subjects which cover their own field of practice. To some the word “lecture” itself is something of an ogre, but the main constituent of such a lecture is the speaker himself. The topic to be discussed is only second in relation to the speaker, but a good spokesman submerges himself or in his subject that the audience forgets him and lives in the realm of his subject. Have you ever pictured yourself lost with Stanley Livingstone in the wilds of Africa? Perhaps you are puzzled as to who Livingstone could be. Well, don’t miss one of the most interesting stories in your life, and seek until you find. I’ve lived through his experiences so vividly during a lecture that a moving picture could not have aroused more enthusiasm in respect to his work. Vividly drawn pictures both mentally and physically (on board and paper, etc.) aid in adding interest to any so-called lectures. No matter how well a lecture may be presented, too much repition lulls the interest and we may fall back again to where we were when we began. Arouse interest and keep it in such a state — it is a good thing to remember. Why then shouldn’t pictures be a good substitute for a speaker? Really, pictures help more in bringing! a clear understanding and vision than mere words. Everyone’s imagination runs amuck sometime or other, but pictures retain your interest and the ideas remain longer in store for future use. There are different types of pictures that I refer to, those being picture plates, moving pictures, pictures drawn on blackboards, picture cards, etc. You can even secure at this day and age talking pictures for various phases of religious work or any other subject that may be the topic for the evening discussion. An evening of entertainment inter-linked with some religious aspects is very interesting. Groups in different churches have their own view-points on the type of entertainment that should help pass a nice evening. Some groups play cards, dance, play games, billiards; others swim, play hockey, basketball, tennis, ping pong, and oh, so many other numerous games. Practically everything can be done in form of games. The above mentioned ways of trying to make the Union a bigger and better one, by improving on the smaller groups, does not limit one just to what happens to be enumerated. There are countless other ways. These just happen to be the ones that interest me. When your individual societies and groups have developed in lines to better themselves both mentally and physically, then you can expect improvements in the Union as a whole. A number of small groups develop larger groups. These bigger groups become the nucleus of the Christian Endeavor Union, Words themselves can not accomplish anything. There may be numerous essays written on this subject, but if the advice is not administered, the groups and the Union can not improve, as in the case of a sick child and her doctor. The doctor’s advice and prescription are of no value if they are not followed. There must be action, not mere words. Action speaks louder than words, and shows the real results in the end. Toledo, O. Egyházunkban a húsvéti szent ünnep Istentől gazdagon megáldott ünnep volt. Virágvasárnap harminc ifjú fogadott örök hűséget Krisztusnak a konfirmációban. Délután félötkor konfirmációi fogadalom ímegujitó istentiszteletet tartottunk, amely alkalommal Rev. Mitchell prédikált. Nt. Újlaki Ferencné és Kardos Erzsiké “Nyisd meg a mi szemeinket Jézus............” c. énekkel járultak hozzá az' istentisztelet szépségéhez. Ezt követőleg, hat órakor a tiz év óta megkonfirmált ifjak adtak egymásnak találkozót egy közös vacsorában, amelyen több mint háromszáz ifjú vett részt. A vacsorát programm követte. Ennek első száma Miss Gates beszéde volt, aki az orosz, japán és kinai ifjak helyzetét, mozgalmait ismertette ifjúságunk előtt. A vacsorát a Ref. Nőegylet szolgálatra kész tagjai készítették és szolgálták fel, ezenkívül a hozzávalót is összeadták úgy, hogy a vacsora az egyháznak egy centjébe sem került. — A nagyhéten minden este, nagypénteken pedig délelőtt is istentiszteletet tartottunk, amelyeken nagy számban vették teszt a hivek. Minden este szóló, vagy karének tette még szebbé az istentiszteleteket. Husvét első napján 412-en vettek részt az ünnepies istentiszteleten és éltek az Úri Szent Vacsorával. Az ünnepi adományok összege 171 dollárt tett ki. Az urvacsorai szent jegyeket egyházunk gondnoka Bacsó Pál és neje adományozták. A Lorántfy Zs. Nőegylet nagy örömet szerzett a vasárnapi iskolásoknak azzal, hogy csokoládé himes tojással ajándékozta meg őket. -— A Lorántfy Zs. Nőegylet által rendezett szini- előadás nagyon jól sikerült, amelynek bevételét, 75 dollárt, átadták az egyház adójának kifizetésére. — A Kálvin János Egylet április 30-án műsorral egybekötött társasvacsorát rendez, május 7-én a toledoi öt református egyház ifjúsága közös konferenciát tart a mi templomunkban.
