Lesson: Matt. 6:5—13; Mark 11:20—26. II I keep on writing in this column long enough I shall confess most of my sins and tell you many of my habits. Here is a story involving the latter. It used to be my habit to sit up nights and fool around with my radio to see how many far stations I could get on it. I soon found that in the stillness of the night when everything about me was quiet I could reach out with my receiving set and grab any distant station almost at will. In doing this, a strange fact impressed me. Prayer entered my mind. It dawned upon me that in praying I was doing practically the same thing as in trying to locate and catch the emitted waves of a distant radio station. I soon found that the receiving set of my soul could better penetrate the distance between me and God in His Heaven. In prayer — says Dr. Ravasz — a wonderful exchange takes place. We make God’s will our will. We do not let God know our wishes, He knows them, but rather we discover what He wants from us. Prayer is to the soul what breathing is to the lungs. The deeper, the more earnestly we pray, the better our chances in getting in touch with God. “Unless a man is in trouble, his prayer ain’t got no suction”, said an old Negro philosopher. There is great truth in this. The best, soul-searching prayers that were ever uttered came from the lips of suffering men. Read the short, piercing prayer of the penitent publican. Prayer does not consist in the choice of words or the fineness of diction, but rather in the quality of feeling, the earnestness of desire and the compunction of the heart. A Budapest-Gödöllői cserkész Jamboree olyari alkalmat nyújt fiaink számára szülőhazánk megtekintésére, amilyet életükben többé aligha tudnak megszerezni. Cserkészeink szüleinek minden erejüket meg kellene fesziteniök arra nézve, hogy ezt az alkalmat megadják fiaik részére. Igaz, hogy éppen a mai időkben anyagi okok miatt sok nehézségbe ütközik ez, de még most is vannak közöttünk igen sokan olyanok, akik megtehetik azt, ha igazán akarják. Nagyobb testületeink azonban megtehetnék azt, hogy maguk is segítenének a fiukon. A Református Egyesület már kimondotta, hogy mindazokat a cserkészeket, akik tagjai az Egyesületnek s részt akarnak venni a nagy világ-táborozáson: egyenként io dollárral segíti. Nem tehetnék ezt meg a többi nagy testületek is? Egészen bizonyos, hogy azzal nemcsak jót cselekednének, hanem kitűnő befektetést is eszközölnének saját javukra. Az amerikai boy scoutok “Nemzeti Tanácsa” a fiuk részére különböző útirányokat állított össze, amelyek között válogatni lehet, hogy Európának melyik részeit szeretnék a fiuk megtekinteni? How many of you “Young People” have ever thought about the meaning of the word “conference?” As I understand the word, “It is a piece of machinery whereby we are able to find solutions for our difficulties and misunderstandings on a purely willing basis.” At a conference we are free to express personal or group opinions on certain problems or questions. We may discuss and debate about the question until we arrive at a definite conclusion concerning our problem. A conference is not a thing that can become perfected over night but it requires time and patience on the part of its leaders. In order to make our conferences more perfect we must have many of them. I am going to express my ideas about making a more perfect Union. Before the Union can be strengthened, we must examine the Young People’s Groups that make Nagy Ferenc
