AMERIKAf MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 7 AZ IFJÚSÁG KÖRÉBŐL. “HEREIN IS MY FATHER GLORIFIED!’’ As the shepherds in Palestine take their sheep out to graze, they very often come to crevices or ravines that they cannot cross. Beyond the crevice there is wonderful grazing land; but how can the shepherd get his sheep across? From the herd he picks a lamb, anoints its head with sweet smelling oil, takes the lamb in his arms, walks to the crevice and with the aid of his staff helps the lamb across to the other side. The rest of the sheep, smelling the sweet oil, one by one jump across the opening, thus following the one whose head had been anointed. This is the meaning of David’s “Thou anointest my head with oil!” This he follows with the words “my cup runneth over!’’ Those four words express more than anything else could express my joy and happiness after my trip to Flint and Detroit. My Father, the Shepherd, had seen fit to anoint my head and the head of my co-worker with oil and use us as leaders in His great Work, so that His Name might be glorified. The plan for this work started at a meeting of the Lookout Committee in Toledo. A suggestion was made that two members be sent to the nearest cities where Christian Endeavor Societies were not yet organized and also where they were organized, but as yet had not shown an interest in the Union. The President of the Union, William Akos, and I, were chosen to undertake this task. Neither of us had experience in the work of organization, but we knew that with Him as our Guide, we would win in the end. In Flint 55 young people gathered together in His Name on a Sunday afternoon. The little church was crowded with youthful faces, all so eager to hear about the C. E. movement, and all so willing to pledge themselves to join the army that didn’t cary weapons of death, but weapons of life — eternal life. All three C. E. Societies were organized: the Junior, Intermediate and Senior groups. We planted the seed; God is the Gardener; but God needs implements with wlhich to work in this garden. He took for His implements Anna and Eva Korocz and the newly elected officers. The little group may often grow weak, discouraged, restless, but we ask that its leaders “Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for strength.” With Him the garden will bloom and “By their fruits ye shall know them.” It was a week day evening in Detroit, and yet there were 150 young people gathered together in a joint Christian Endeavor Meeting of all three classes to worship Him, to learn more about Him and to follow Him. Many of the young people renewed their pledge, for U. E. work in Detroit is not new. Even so, the path the young people have chosen is not an easy one. There are obstacles in the way. They need renewed strength, that, though the obstacles remain, they can keep on the path they have chosen and even though the very stars may be gone, to “Sail on, sail on, sail on!” Nothing has given me such satisfaction, filling my soul to the utmost, as seeing work accomplished for Him. Christ had sent out His disciples two by two to the different cities whither He Himself would come later. After their work was done they returned, their hearts filled with joy, bubbling over with happiness, telling Christ of all they had done in His Name. That is how we felt when we came back to report to the Lookout Committee. “Have you heard this tale — The best of them all — The tale of the Holy True, He dies, but His Life, in untold souls Lives on in the world anew, His seed prevails, and is filling the earth As the stars fill the sky above. He taught us to yield up the love of life, For the sake of the life of love. His death is our life, His loss is our gain, The joy for the tear, the peace for the pain.” We told the Tale of the Holy True, the rest we are leaving for the Gardener and for His workers to do. We know that our work was not in vain for each new soldier in the army of Christian Endeavor will take up the tale. To the new soldiers let me say, “Remember there is no glory without the cross. Crucifixion comes before coronation. At the end He will lead you beside still waters and surely you will dwell in the house of the Lord where you may glorify His Name forever!” Elizabeth Komáromy.
