8 AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA If it is admitted that our individual life and well being is dependent greatly on the vision that is within and ever before us, how much more do we need to depend upon it in our social — that is, in our national and collective life! It is often said in these trying days of ours that the trouble with this country and, in fact, with the world as a whole, is that we have no reality and truly great men of vision to lead us out of this world cataclysm. I personally do not believe that statement to be true. I believe that there are in this country and in the world men and women of immeasurable faith and clear vision, who if they work togther and are heeded will safely guide us from fear, despair and chaos to recovery, order, hope and a higher state of security. But in order to help to bring about such a state of condition, “we need the expression of many visions, that from the many we can combine into one of the best features and unitedly work with directed intelligence toward its achievement.” Hungarian Young People of America, that is just exactly what we need! We need young people of vision in our local churches and societies but we also need th expression of their thoughts and visions in order to bring into one the best that is in them, that we may by our collective ideas and co-operation help those who are weak among us and at the same time make our Hungarian C. E. Union a Bigger, Better and Stronger one. The prophet of many centuries ago said: “Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy” and “your young men shall see visions.” The executive officers of the Hungarian C. E. Union have caught the vision of a greater organization and have challenged us for an expression of the faith and vision that is within us. Shall we not accept their challenge by entering the Essay Contest, expressing our thoughts, hopes, and visions of a Bigger, Better and Stronger Union!! JOHN BOTTY, Publications Chairman. ATTENTION! PENNSYLVANIANS! Have you participated in the essay contest? Let’s make this contest a real contest! Everybody make a stab at it, even if you think you cannot write a composition. We all have ideas of how we can make this Union Bigger, Better, and Stronger, so why not put our ideas down on paper and send it in to Mr. Sari? Leaders! Will you take the responsibility on your shoulders to send to my address (301 Ruben Bldg., McKeesport, Pa.) the names of the contestants in your city ? Either you, leaders, send the names in, or give the names to your minister and have him send it in — before December 15th, when the contest closes! Which city in Pennsylvania will write the most essays? Who will be on top of the list which will be published in the Reformátusok Lapja? Let’s all endeavor to reach first place! Even if you have one essay written from your community, send the contestant's name in, for your city will be represented. Shall we Pennsylvanians challenge the other states? I Sok, sok olyan halottunk van s idők jártával mindig több és több lesz, akinek sírja fölött eset- ről-esetre méltán fonhatnánk mindig külön koszorút. Egyszerű, becsületes, jó magyar kálvinista emberek, akik talán nem álltak őrt az első helyeken, de akiknek mélységes hite, vallásos buz- gósága egyházszjeretete mindennél nagyobb érték és érdem Isten előtt. Ezek közé tartozik a New Yorki Első Egyházban Spuriusz József, akinek utolsó gondolata is az egyház volt. A 76 éves jó öreg ember november 14-én délfelé hunyt el. A délelőtt folyamán azonban még az egyházzal foglalkozott s azzal törődött, hogy az egyház bazárján szép virágok legyenek. Levelet irt, még postára is tette azt s utolsó levele igy kezdődik: “Édes Erzsikéin, és mindketten. Legyetek szívesek az egyház bazárjára szép virágokat csinálni és legalább is 21-én elhozni, hogy idejében. ...” Mire ezt a levelet a cimzett megkapta, írója már föl volt ravatalozva. Ennek a szelidlelkü, becsületes öregnek tehát utolsó gondolata is az egyház volt. A virágok elkészültek s az egyház bazárjának szép ékességei voltak, de legszebben azért mégsem a bazárt, hanem az ő koporsóját ékesítették. Nincsen olyan ékes csokor, amely szebb volna annál a virágnál, amit saját szivünk teszen önnön koporsónkra. Amint a tudósításból olvassuk, Spuriusz József koporsóját valósággal elborították virágokkal, de nem volt azok között egy sem olyan szép, mint az elhunyt utolsó levele, utolsó gondolata. Adjon a jó Isten sok ilyen hűséges lelket magyar Sionunknak.
