8 AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA concerning the youth movement in rural Hungary. Here was a vibrant leader of youth, loving his young people in immense proportions and filled with boundless enthusiasm for the spiritual welfare of young people. We little wonder that the youth of Hungary flock to him in such prodigious numbers for inspiration and guidance. By dint of his genuine interest in young people, his unselfish devotion to their cause, his aim to actualize the spirit of Christ in the hearts of the younger generation, he fully deserves the support of all those who wish to serve the highest ideals of life. Hungarian youth is fortunate in his leadership and we are indebted to them for sharing him with us through his brief visit here. Mr. Kovács’s stay with us was significant in many ways. Chief among them is that we needed someone to drive home to us, in his inimitable way, that our young people’s organizations are worthless unless the Bible is central in their programs. That sounded good to us, coming as it did from the mouth of a Hungarian layman. It sounded sane and reasonable, for Mr. Kovács supported his thesis with admirable proof from his field of work. How soul-stirring it was to hear him recount example after example of the transformation that Christian ideals brought about in the life of village youth. He showed to us beyond question that our young people’s organizations will not become colorless and unattractive because we wish to put Christ in the center of their programs. In fact, Christ will add the only worthwhile attraction and lend the only abiding color. This message reached many young people in our Hungarian congregations. Will every person whose heart responded to this fortifying truth go to his or her task in the church with a desire to realize a Magyar church community with the chief interest centering about Christ? Such a purpose will mean the reawakening of many a slumbering Magyar heart. It will mean the reawakening of many a slumbering congregation as well! It would be the advent of a religious consciousness which we sorely need to insure the continued existence of what our fathers have built. Rev. William Tóth. KOVÁCS PÉTER ELSZÁMOLÁSA. Kovács Péter, a hazai KIÉ földmives- ifjusági titkára, részletes elszámolást küldött hozzánk azokról a bevételekről és kiadásokról, amelyek amerikai tartózkodása alatt merültek fel. Az egészen aprólékos részletekig menő s meglehetősen terjedelmes elszámolás közlésére aligha van szükség, helyünk sem igen van hozzá. A végeredményt közöljük csupán, amely szerint összes bevétele volt $507.92, kiadása $141.87 s igy a maradvány $366.05. A maradvány tulajdonképen $396.05, mert a kiadásokban van egy $30.00 tétel, egy írógép ára, amelyet nem számit személyes kiadásnak. Amint bucsucikkében is Írja, a tiszta maradványon földet fognak vásárolni, hogy annak jövedelméből fejlesszék a földmi vés ifjúsági munkát. A magunk részéről csak gratulálni tudunk Kovács Péternek ehhez az elszámoláshoz. Nem volt még soha, egyetlen egy hazai látogatónk sem, aki közel félévi itt tartózkodása alatt mindössze $111.67-t fordított volna személyes kiadásokra. Szinte lehetetlenül kicsike összeg. De amilyen kicsi: éppen olyan nagy mértékben bizonyít Kovács Péter puritán élete és lelkiismerete mellett. Dear Christian Endeavor Members and Young People of our Magyar Reformed Churches! In the above verses of the Bible, we find the thought that must be in any accomplishment, that without Christ we are helpless children. It is not necessary to go back very far to find a good example of these words. Our fathers, who immigrated to this country only a few years ago, conceived the idea of raising a higher standard of living than they formerly had. Arriving here, in most cases, friendless and penniless, they encountered heart-rendering difficulties. Having faith in Jesus Christ, they found strength. They were given work for which they wiere poorly paid, but instead of hampering their spirit, it instilled a vision in them that is even now looked upon with admiration and
