Rev. Alexander Harsanyi, Ph. D-, My dear Doctor Harsanyi:— You need have no anxiety whatever as to the possibility of our Board discontinuing the publication of The Reformátusok Lapja. This paper under your present management has made a place for itself among the Presbyterian and Reformed Hungarian constituency, and I am sure that it would be not only very unwise, but injurious to the cause for us to discontinue it now, and to replace it with another paper, whose management would be under the supervision of the Federation of the Hungarian Reformed Benevolent Societies. .It is neither the purpose, nor within the province of the Board of Publication and Sabbath-school Work of the Presbyterian Church in the U. S. A., nor of the Publication Board the Reformed Church to publish a periodical primarily to serve the purposes of the Reformed Benevolent Societies. If they wish to publish a paper on their own responsibility, they have the priviledge of doing so at any time, that is none of our business, but we would not appropriate any of our funds to support such a paper........... ___We are interested .primarily and solely in the presentation of evangelical truth to the Hungarian people in America, and we believe that by so doing we are contributing in the largest possible way toward promoting the spirit of Americanization among them. This is our peculiar and particular missionIf the Federation of Reformed Benevolent Societies would like to look upon the Reformátusok Lapja as the paper through which they will make known the work which they are doing to the Hungarian people, we have no objection, provided they are willing to pay for the space they use, but they must distinctly understand that our paper is not being published for their benefit, and that they cannot control its policy. I am confident, that our Board, and the Reformed Board, as well, would not agree to such a plan, as the Federation of Benevolent Societies have suggested. Ur: — Önnek ne legyen a legcsekélyebb aggodalma sem a miatt, mintha talán a Publ. Board beszüntetné a Reformátusok Lapját. Ez az újság az Ön jelenlegi kitűnő vezetése alatt helyet biztosított magának a magyar prezsbiterián és reformátusság körében, és teljesen bizonyos vagyok a felől, hogy ennek ez időszerinti bezsüntetése és egy olyan újsággal való helyettesítése, mely az Am- Magy. Ref. Egyeszület felügyelete alatt állana; — nemcsak nagyon helytelen, hanem. ügyünkre, nézve, káros, intézkedés volna. Sem a Prezsbiterián, Sem a Reformed Church Irodalmi Tanácsainak czéljai és hatáskörébe nem tartozik egy olyan újságot kiadni, melynek főhivatása lenne a Református. Betegsegélyző. Egyletek, czéljait szolgálni. Ha ők (t. i. az Egyesület) akarnak saját felelősségükre ilyen újságot kiadni ehez meg van a joguk bármikor, — ahoz nekünk semmi közünk, — de egy ilyen újság fenntartására alapjainkból semmivel hozzá nem járulunk.. Mi főképen és kiválolag az iránt érdeklődünk, hogy az evangéliumi hit igazságok hirdettessenek az Amerikában levő magyaroknak, és a mikor ezt tesszük, ez által a lehető legnagyobb mértékben hozzájárulunk az amerikai szellemnek közöttük való terjesztéséhez. Ez a mi különleges és sajátlagos hivatásunk. Ha a Ref. Egyletek Szövetsége a Reformátusok Lapját igénybe óhajtja venni azon munka ismertetésére a mit az Egyesület végez, — ez ellen nincs kifogásunk, feltéve hogy megfizetnek a lapban elfoglalt helyért, de egész világosan meg kell érteniük, hogy a mi lapunk nem ő érettük van kiadva és hogv ők ennek a lapnak irányát nem befolyá solhatják. Bizonyos vagyok arról, hogy sem a mi Boardunk,sem a Reformed Church Boardja olyan tervhez, a minőt a Ref. Egyesület terveit, — hozzá nem járulna. A legszivélyesebb üdvözlettel vagyok az Ön hive J. M.
