Dear Brethren:— A lew years less than three-hundred years ago, a band of sturdy people landed on this, which is our own United States, and bending their knees to the Allmighty, gave thanks to Him who guided their rough and perilous journey to a sale ending.. They who longed for religious freedom, for absolute independence, for peace, contentment, for happiness, found it in the pine forest of America. Here in the* a sles of the dim woods rang their Hozannas to Him who safely guided them to their new life. A mere handful; not quite one hundred included this band of Pilgrims, these were the ones who followed them decade after decade even unto this very day. They who toiled daily in building their log cabins, planting corn, storing food for the coming winter, at last were ready for the hardship of winter and they fittingly closed their toil by thanksgiving. They set aside a day for prayer and feasting. With the Indians who befriended them, they ate and prayed together. Thus did they unknowlingly perpetuate this day of prayer, of feasting, of thankgiving. It makes us also realize that we are too pilgrims of this fair land. We too have much to thank God for. On Thanksgiving Day—of this year of our Lord November 26th— let there be no immigrant in this land of ours who does not feel the* soiemnness of this day, who does not feel that he too owes much to his Creator. This day is dedicated to the memory of those pilgrims; let us give benediction to their dust for having founded this land of ours. All America prays on this holiday—let us, immigrants of this land also do likewise. Let us also pray to God for helping us out of bondage to this broad free land of ours. Let us also thank the Lord, that America has accepted us as her sons, that he has showered us also with the bountifulness of this fair land. We came to this country with nothing, but trust in Him and America—and the Lord has crowned our trust with victory. Let us bow our heads before the Lord on this day, with true piousness, without blemish. Let us ask for Lord’s blessing on this land of ours. Ask Him to shower this land with peace and plenty. Let us ask the Lord to stay the horror of that terrible war in our Fatherland; may we hope that this war will puree the land of all the falsifications, purge it from all sins of war forever and ever; that it may come out of this war a new Europe. As America has a thanksgiving day, let Europe also set aside a day for thanksgiving. Let this be our prayer for this coming Thanksgiving Day. A bridgeporti magyarság tudomást véve a Magyar Nemzeti Szövetség újjászervezéséről, annak zászlói alá igyekszik sorakozni, hogy ezen mozgalomból is kivegye részét a bridgeporti magyarság nevéhez méltóan, mint tette azt a múltban is, midőn az amerikai magyarság nevének és becsületének megvédéséről volt sző. A Bridgeporti, Conn., Rákóczi Egylet 1914 november 8-áti tartott gyűlésén a tagok nagyszámmal való jelenlétében egyhangúlag elfogadta a Nemzeti Szövetséghez való csatlakozást, egyben határo- zatilag kimondotta, hogy a szövetség ügyének pártolására fel fogja hivni összes osztályainak figyelmét. A határozat kimondásával kapcsolatban Troli Vince főtitkár örömének adott kifejezést és öt dollárt adományozott a szövetség céljaira. A Bridgeporti, Conn., Első Magyar Református Egylet, mint a Ref. Egyesület első osztálya 1914 november 15-én tartott rendes havi gyűlésén ifj. Köteles István elő- tejesztésére határozatilag kimondta a Nemzeti Szövetséghez való csatlakozást, egyben az egylet kebelében a szövetség ügyeinek kezelésére Babinszky Mihályt bízta meg. A Bridgeport, Conn. Szent László R. és G. Kath. Magyar Beteg- segélvző Egylet november 15-én tartott gyűlésén megjelent Bodnár András, mint a nagybizottság elnöke és kérte az egylet tagjait a Nemzeti Szövetséghez való csatlakozásra. A Szent László Egylet, mint egyik legtöbb tagot számláló katholikus egylet, határozatilag ki is mondta a csatlakozást, a mire fiókosztályainak figyelmét szintén felhívta. Ezen egyesületeink példájának követésére szeretettel felkérjük a Bridgeport és környéki magyar egyleteket ' és egyházainkat, csatlakozzanak a Nemzeti Szövetséghez, hogy ne csak más nemzetek fiainak, d-j egyszer már nekünk, Amerikába vándorolt magyaroknak is legyen egy intézményünk, mely nemzetünk nevét és becsületét meg tudja védeni. Kérjük egyházaink és egyleteink tagjait a clevelandi nemzetgyűlés azon határozatára való tekintettel, amely szerint a szövetség egyik kerületi székhelye Bridgeport lett, szíveskedjenek a kerületi tisztikar megválasztására 3 tagú bizottságot kinevezni és a megválasztottak neveit és lakcímét a nagybizottság jegyzőjével tudatni. Egyben szeretettel kérjük azon magyar testvéreinket is, kik egyletekhez nem tartoznak, legyenek tagjai a Nemzeti Szövetségnek, sorakozzanak a zászló alá, hogy minden Amerikába vándorolt magyar mondhassa, hogy tagja azon magyar intézménynek, mely megvédeni igyekszik magyar véreink érdekeit és egy testté alkotja Ame rika összmagyarságát. Mindazon testvéreink, kik egyletekbe nem tartoznak s tagjai óhajtanak lenni a Nemzeti Szövetségnek, szíveskedjenek a nagybizottság elnöke vagy jegyzőjénél jelentkezni.
