AMERICAN %m g a ria n J o u rn a l Queen's Birthday Holiday Sparks Debate SIDNEY, Australia - Repub­licans say the Queen’s Birthday holiday is irrelevant and honours should be moved to Australia Day, but monarchists say the suggestion is ludicrous. All states and territories, except Western Australia, were celebrating j|| the Queen’s Birthday holiday on June 12, even though the Queen’s actual birthday is in April. At the same tiem, hundreds of people have been honoured in awards. Former prime ministers Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser have sparked debate calling for the honours selection panel to be abolished and replaced with a group of eminent Australians, while the awards should be given out only on Australia Day. (Los Angeles) Noted Singer Serves as Active Volunteer in Retirement Elizabeth Tarczy Kovács, of San Mateo, has worked as a mezzo-soprano entertainer and also as a volunteer in the San Francisco Bay Area for 40 years. In October 1962, Tarczy had her own radio program on KAFE FM 98.1. in San Francisco with her accompanist, László Lendvay von Csákány, for two years. Her 1975 Christmas record made with composer Judith Neszlenyi was recognized as a Golden Winner by the Hungarian Arpad Acad­emy in Cleveland. Tarczy was the program chair­woman for the Hungarian Society in the Bay Area tor 35 years. On St. Stephen’s Day each year, she went to the San Francisco mayor’s office with several Hungarian representatives, and together they proclaimed Hungarian Day by hanging the Hungarian flag from the mayor’s veranda. In addition, Tarczy arranged and performed at the St. Stephen’s Day program in Golden Gate Park with the Golden Gate Band, under the direction of Ralph Murray and later Robert Hansen. For 18 years, she worked as a volunteer in San Mateo County General Hospital. She worked in the gift shop and also translated for the patients in four different languages. She also sang at the hospital’s annual Christmas pro­gram for many years. In 1980, Tarczy was featured in “The World Who’s Who of Women of America, Fifth Edition.” On April 28, Rosie Costas, director of volunteers, and County Supervisor Jerry Hill pre­sented an award to Tarczy at the Volunteer Recognition luncheon for her outstanding 18 years of voluntary service. Tarczy has retired, but is still volunteering for the FISH organi­zation, which provides free rides to the doctor for elderly people. She has three children and three grandchildren. A kiválasz­tott három művész: Bartos István Péter, Kiss György és Rónay Attila, akik érmeterveiket a 100 000 forint névértékben tervezett arany, illetve az 5000 forintos ezüst emlékérmékre készítették el. Az elmúlt héten bemutattuk Bartos tervezetét, most következzék a másik két művész. KISS GYÖRGY szobrászművész szintén számos magyar emlékérme tervezőjeként ismert. (Például az ezeréves magyar pénz­verés tiszteletére 2001-ben készült arany- és ezüst emlékérmék az ő tervei szerint készültek.) A zsűri véleménye szerint a tervező 1956 szimbólumrendszerének egyik legjellegzetesebb elemével, a lyukas zászlóval méltó módon emlékezik az eseményekre. A tervek erényeként értékelte a szakértői csoport, hogy a lyukas zászlót - a naturális ábrázolási módon túllépve - racionális közelítésű, egyszerűen átírt, modern művészi kifejezéssel megfogalmazott, mindenki számára egyértelmű motívummá tudta alakítani a művész. Mindkét érme érem­képei jól komponáltak, a két címlet tökéletes összhangot alkot. A művész a fémlemezen kidomborodó, sorokba rendezett „1956”­­os évszámokkal az ellentmondást nem tűrő szovjet diktatórikus rend­szert szimbolizálta. A fémlemezből felszakadó, lyukas nemzeti zászlót formáló részek a szabadságharcra utalnak. Az arany és ezüst emlékérme egyaránt 38,61 mm-es átmérővel fog készülni. Az ezüst 925-ezrelék finomságú, súlya 31,46 gramm lesz, különleges arany peremezéssel, maximum tízezer példányban jelenik meg. Az arany 986 ezrelékes, 6 dukát (20,946 gramm) súlyban készül, a verhető mennyiség 5000 db-ban van limitálva. Rónay Attila iparművész, fémműves Ungváron (Ukrajna) szül­etett 1971. október 17-én. 1996-tól Budapesten él.
