Mrs. Stanley Artar 24.00, Taking a forward step in its social life Branch 48 of New York City held its initial friendly gettogether in the first of regularly Scheduled meetings which began Sunday, February 22, 1953. These socials, named appropriately "afternoon coffee socials, because coffee and the famous Hungarian “fánk” will hold a permanent place as ithe feature of the snacks served, are designed to give the members a real and open opportunity to get better 'acquainted with one another and engage in lively social conversations. The Branch 48 afternoon coffee socials do in no way replace the regular business meetings. To reiterate, they are meant to be social meetings in the strict sense. They will be reminiscent of the Continental cafes where voluble conversation goes on amidst light eating and gentle sipping. In addition to the pleasantries of speech the get-togethers of New York’s progressive Branch 48 will — and did at the first meeting — include programs of entertainment. Members and guest of divers talents will lend their charms to the enhancement of the afternoon coffee socials. The brief report of the first Branch 48 afternoon coffee social is la beautiful' beginning that promises as much and more in the future. The beautiful Sunday afternoon program was under the capable direction of Priscilla Shaefer with the versatile George Szunics master of ceremonies. The success of the production proved the ability of amateurs to stand on their own in the1 entertainment field. The program was opened with the rendition of an extra non-scheduled number. This was followed by the beautiful vocals of member Margaret Emody, favorite voice among the Hungarians and member of the Sarossy-Heltay theatrical group. She sang three Magyar hits, one of which it the composition of Mr. Heltay who accompaied with piano. The directorial abilities of Pris- cilia Schaefer were quite evident but shared places with her other talent a splendid voice singing the sentimental “Édes Anyám” so dear to all music loving Hungarians. Nora Szunics’ harmonica accompaniment lent an added appeal to the lovely selection. The two ladies then sang a duet together. . Alex Kalosky 88.00, Albert Maze! 50.28, Ladislaus Santa 10.28. 518. Daniel Balogh, Sr. 35.42. 555. Mrs. Joseph Switch 34.28. 569. Joseph J. Nagy 36.56. TOTAL: $8,152.38 January 31, 1953. JOHN SABO, National Auditor * MAIMING BENEFIT TAID IN JANUARY 1953 32. Mrs. Joseph (Laura) Dolgos ! 200.00, 36. Mrs. Alexander Szalacsi 400.00. 525. John Bora 400.00. TOTAL: $1,060.00 January 31, 1953. Pittsburgh, Pa. JOHN SABO, National Auditor I The dialogue by George Szunics and Ladislaus Havas, the Gobe Székely “Dani bácsi” monologue, the fashion show and the humorous choir renditions — all were accepted enthusiastically by the audience. An extra to the program was quite appreciated as Irene Szepessy, accompanied by Ladislaus Szonyi at! the piano, sang well with her trained voice. Next Nora Szunics vocalized numbers in English to the complete satisfaction of her listeners. Throughout the varied program ■ Cornelius Aranyi, well-known pianist, gave his expert and artistic assistance to the players. An attractive bracelet, donated by member Alexander Greenwald, was won by Mrs. Louis Mészáros. To assure the final touch of perfection to this grand get-together of Brarnc-h 48 and its guests, the kindly ladies of the branch prepared coffee and “fánk”. This delicious snack lends the name, “afternoon coffee social”. The very successful first afternoon coffee social of Branch 48 ended with a fervent plea by Miss Schaefer that the members and guests broadcast to their friends and acquaintances the grand social spirit, that prevails in this kind of endeavor, and to encourage them to attend. Branch 48 has begun a good thing. No member who has the opportunity should miss Branch 48’n new afternoon coffee social series to be held every month. The new vigor, is going to do much for the members and the branch. Our congratulations to progressive Branch 48!--------------------------DO YOU KNOW?
