Renovation, design and investment • Architectural designs need to be completed for the expansion of the Stamp Museum and the Postal Museum at Balatonszemes. • Earmarked funding needs to be obtained for the following:- Modernization of the heating system for the Postal Museum and the Postal Research Institute-Telecommunications Development Institute Conference Room at András sy út 3.- Restoration of the broken woodwork.- Restoration of the inlaid parquet of the Music Room.- Replacement of soiled wallpapers.- Cleaning and replacement of the precious metalwork, metal fittings and brass rods. Tasks with the collections • Operation of a clear-cut system for handling the collections. • Based on the new stamp catalogues, cataloguing and entering in the inventory the stamps received since 1995, separation of the reserve and display stocks, and expansion of the permanent exhibition. • Preparation of computer records for the Stamp Museum library. • Entry of the collection materials not in the inventory. • Computer processing of 25 per cent of the inventory data on the collections of objects. • Devising sets of norms for registering the data on description cards (minimizing data and time spent). • Inspection of the objects declared protected in situ, and objects and documents lent and received on loan. • Standardization of the inventory systems for the provincial collections (Sopron, Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs). • Commencement of an audited inventory of the collections of radio and television history. • Compilation of a five-year restoration plan for each type of collection. • Organization of collection trips to the stores of telecommunications directorates due to be closed. • Continued provision of dust and damp-proof wrapping for objects in store. • Development of a new storage system for the second storey of the Csepel Telecommunications Centre. Scientific activity • Preparation of scenario synopses for the exhibitions to be mounted in 2000 and 2001. • Preparation of catalogues for the collections of smaller objects. • Commissioning and writing of studies for the 1998 yearbook. • Compilation of the material for the CD publication on telegraph history. • Exploration of the relationship between definitive stamps and postage rates. • Compilation of a supplementary volume to the catalogue of the Hungarian Post’s commemorative postmarks on sports subjects. 262
