Kováts, D.: Waldstein and Kitaibel types in the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest

et K., Digitalis fuscescens W. et K., Hieracium racemosum W. et K. - from this species there is a single leaf left in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum. There are 3 W. et K. species, which can be found in the WALDSTEIN Collection but not in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum (Jávorka 1934: 189), they are: Euphorbia viridiflora W. et K; Peucedanum arenarium W. et K. - the herbarium label with detailed description by KITAIBEL and the cover of this species can be found in Budapest; Peucedanum sibiricum W. et K. = Ferula sadleriana LEBED. Zs. BUNKE, member of the Botanical Department, separated and established the so-called Collectio Separata (or Collectio Historica) within the Herbarium CarpatoPannonicum. This material was selected from old, valuable collections. Bunke found several original WALDSTEIN and KITAIBEL and KITAIBEL specimens - on the label with KITAIBEL'S handwriting - in this collection. In the Herbarium Wolnyanum - a part of this collection - there is one Rosa reversa W. et K. specimen which can be found neither in WALDSTEIN'S Collection and nor in Herbarium Kitaibelianum. I do not want to deal with the 135 W. et K. taxa which can be found in the WALDSTEIN Collection, because their detailed descriptions were given by CHRTEK & SKOCDOPOLOVÁ (1982). According to the list of lectotype specimens - given in alphabetical order - there are 135 type specimens in the WALDSTEIN Collection in Prague (CHRTEK & SKOCDOPOLOVÁ 1982: 236-238). From this 135 taxa, original specimens of 132 taxa can be found in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum as well, many of them are represented by several specimens on several sheets. In this paper are enumerated the WALDSTEIN and KITAIBEL (W. et K.) type specimens, which are deposited in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum and one specimen in the Herbarium Wolnyanum. In the list there are 83 W. et K. taxa in alphabetical order. Although these species were described and painted in the Icones, they are missing from the WALDSTEIN Collection in Prague. In the description of the taxa the following informations are given: - the names are marked with asterisk (*), if they are valid - according to the most recent literature - as species, subspecies or varietas names; - the names are followed by the corresponding data of the Icones; - in some cases JÁVORKA'S remarks (1926, 1929, 1934, 1936) are mentioned as well, when the species were described not only in the Icones, but also in WILLDENOW (1797-1824) and in KITAIBEL (1863). JÁVORKA'S remarks are cited in those cases as well when the species were described under LlNNÉ's, AITON'S, ALLIONI'S, LAMARCK'S, SIBTHORP'S, VILLAR'S, WILLDENOW'S authorship, and are generally accepted under these names in the botanical literature (JÁVORKA 1926,1929, 1934,1936); - after the sign "Herbar. Kitaibel Mus. Nat. Hung." the number of the original KITAIBEL sheets of the discussed species is given, as in most of the cases there are not only one, but several sheets. The fascicle numbers are printed with Roman; and sheet numbers with Arabic numbers; - according to JÁVORKA (1926, 1929, 1934, 1936), in some cases the specimens of the same species are described under different names; - JÁVORKA'S revisions (JÁVORKA 1926,1929,1934,1936); - synonym and valid names according to the mentioned literature; - the fascicle and the sheet numbers of the designated lectotypes; - the number of specimens, and what parts of the plants are on the designated lectotype sheets; - the text of KITAIBEL'S standard label on the type sheet - on the original sheets with his own handwriting - usually with the name of species, in some cases short descriptions of the species or remarks about the locality. Most of the specimens in the Herbarium Kitaibelianum were collected by KITAIBEL, but he got some plants from different persons (JÁVORKA 1926: 428-449). The abbreviations F.7., F.16., F.17.. F.28. occuring in this paper means that the specimens originated from A. FESTETITS. There is one specimen from BALBIS and one from MAUKSCH. X.47. means that from this species KITAIBEL sent to WILLDENOW. Sometimes KITAIBEL referred to his diary: D.56., D.72.; - most of the revisions on the type sheet were made by JÁVORKA with his handwriting, but there are some other revisions and remarks.
