Ujabb leletmentés a Nagyszombat utcai amfiteátrumtól délre (Budapest, III. ker., Lajos utca 74., Hrsz.: 14665) Budaújlakon, 1999 májusában kezdtünk először ásatást, ismét a PROFORM Rt. anyagi hozzájárulásával a cég tulajdonában lévő, mintegy 900 négyzetméteres telken. (1. kép) Az elmúlt évtized alatt a Nagyszombat utcától délre lévő városrész képe szinte teljesen átalakult, s az építkezéseket megelőzően, feltárások tucatjaival, több hektár vált kutathatóvá a római katonaváros (canabae) lakott területei és a Bécsi út nyugati oldalát szegélyező temető között, a Kolosy téri piacig és azon túl. Ez a terület a római korban gyéren beépített, inkább ipari létesítmények, raktárak és (talán) konyhakerti művelés számára fenntartott zóna volt, utakkal, csatornákkal és árkokkal szabdalt külvárosi rész, a Lajos utca keleti oldalán, dél felé, egyre keskenyedő lakott területek mellett. Kéthónapos feltárásunk alatt sem topográfiai, sem időrendi kérdésekben nem vártunk új eredményt. A telepnyomok most is arra utaltak, hogy az 1995-ben feltárt fazekasműhely (1. kép: 19.), egy későbbi út (17.) és naRecent Rescue Excavations South of the Nagyszombat Street Amphitheater (Budapest, District III, 74 Lajos Street, Tin.: 14665) We started excavation once again with the financial support of the PROFORM Rt. in May 1999 on the approximately 900 m 2 land plot, a property of the firm in Budaújlak. (Figure 1) The district south of Nagyszombat Street has nearly totally changed during the last decade and many hectares have been researched by dozens of excavations preceding the constructions in the area between the inhabited regions of the Roman Military Town (canabae) and the cemetery bordering the western side of the Bécsi Street up to the market on Kolosy square and even beyond it. This territory was barely inhabited during the Roman period being a "security zone" ("mezogeia") set aside for industrial establishments, storehouses and (perhaps) for kitchen gardens, an outskirts of the town segmented by roads, canals and trenches on the eastern side of Lajos Street, southwards along the gradually narrowing inhabited territories.
