Mária Egri To the anniversary exhibition of Ágnes Szabó painter and graphic artist Ágnes Szabó starting her career rose with her black and white drawings, which more or less re-wrote the natural sight. The continuously, shortly, compressed lines drawn with Indian ink or pen are emphatic or slightly perceivable and restlessly move, grow and die out on her papers. At that time the playful richness of details was the most characteristic of her work. Depending on handling the drawing instruments the recognizable natural forms varies in several ways in her pictures. She keeps the detailed ease of the movement of the brush and pen, consummating with the variations of the bigger patches of paint. The organic view of an artist as a starting point remained. Re-composing of the recognisable flora however was broadening year after year. From the finished piece of art it is impossible to trace back the original view. The multilevel visual experience of her works is achieved by applying several techniques simultaneously. She uses chipboard, canvas glued on board and several types of paper. Apart from the traditional paints, brushes, pencils, pens and painting instruments she applies the possibilities of picture editing computer softwares, printers and copying machines. She uses more of them at the same times, on several layers on each other, or next to the other. In her latest works the organic or material details almost suddenly appear one after the other from under the main motif. They are movements, eyes, palpacles, bugs and plant fragments hidden in or under colour-forms. Even the inspiring elementswindow, bars, skeleton, corpse, embryo - with concrete meaning are accompanied with these prolific ornaments, and her works concretized with pricks, written text or physical signs too. It's like a lively, autonomous world operating behind the exterior what really exists in its fragments. The Szeged-born artist is member of the National Association of Creative Artists, the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists, the Hungarian Society of Painters and the Hungarian Society of Aquarellists. Her works were awarded three times at the aquarelle symposiums of Eger, she got the Artists' Prize of county Szolnok in 1988, and later the prize of the county exhibition in 1996. Her work was awarded by the prize of the Hungarian Pictorial Fund at the Sound and Picture exhibition of the Hungarian Society of Painters in 2006. » 207 «
