Nagyné Batári Zsuzsanna: Nyári konyhák Heves megyében sajtódokumentumok tükrében. „És most, kedves Olvasó, lapozd tovább az újságot - tanulj, szórakozz, nevess.”
Zsuzsanna Nagyné Batári SUMMER KITCHENS IN HEVES COUNTY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF NEWSPAPER ARTICLES „And now, dear reader, turn the page - learn something, be entertained and laugh.” What can we learn about a particular type of building if we try to gather information from a single source, explore its relevance in everyday life and take a look of the daily life in such a building? In our case the source is newspapers chronicling the history and life ofEger and Heves County: Népújság, later Heves Megyei Hírlap, and the daily called Eger. And the type of building we examine is the summer kitchen, which was an important standalone or attached building of the village properties in most parts of Hungary from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As an addition to the traditional ethnographic research, we set out to analyse newspaper articles that featured the summer kitchen in order to have a better understanding of the functions of the building, peoples opinions about it, the mentality and complex phenomena related to its use from the perspective of a specific era. The building can be researched from the aspect of folk architecture, since it can be interpreted as one of the steps in the modernisation of fireplaces, ovens and stoves, however it can also be approached from the area of studies in lifestyle or the use of space. The micro-historical approach offers a new dimension for research, providing that the source is subject to critical judgement. The use and benefit of the source is unquestionable, and it can be an important addition to ethnographic research which uses traditional methods. 150
