Struggle and Reconciliation (About the Art of György Kiss) Since Man has known himself as Man, struggle has defined his life. We could say that by the experiences acquired in course of this struggle, and with help of the requisites formed to this effect, he was able to create his own image. In this idea, recognition, tlie deeper „knowledge" of tlie other­half, of tlie „otlier force", is included. This, struggle can be interpreted as the basic category of human life, something that works continuously and on each level. After all, the dualities of man and elements, nature and soci­ety, individual and community, are always represented in these two forces, and these relations are definitely interwoven in our actual lives. Reconciliation - beyond its commonplace meaning - is the acceptance of tlie presence and nature of this otlier half, this otlier force, this not being separable from struggle itself. Lastly, reconciliation means the under­standing on a higher level, of tlie relation revealed in the struggle of die two forces. We could be asked why entangle ourselves into the above reasoning in connection with the presentation of an art exhibition, the oeuvre of an artist we are closely related to. Because we think that the problems com­prised in these two concepts, greatly influence art and consequently the artist as well. And now, getting to our point, we can safely consider each work as a link accomplished out of a chain (as life-work) of struggle and reconciliation. Later, we shall also understand more and more cleary why the above two ideas have an outstanding role in tlie art of György Kiss. We can but deplore that tlie circumstances of the lorrg expected setting up of the Stations, and their realization have come up neither to the worth 19
