Mátyás Szűrös made a statement to be issued abroad which said that no-one would be deported to Románia. Hovever the statement made by Dr Zoltán Gál, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, and Dr Margit Pénzes, the deputy leader of the Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters* Administration Department, which said that all those regarded as criminals or only ask fór asylum fór the sake of a better financial situation will be deported, has nőt been ammended. In fact János Székely, the Brigadier-General on the Ministry of the Interior*s bordér guards Headquarters, told Népszabadság (Peoples Freedora) on December 29th that nearly 1400 people have been deported. The otherwise fairly free Hungárián média has been very tacitum about this issue bút a few cases have come to light recently. Magyar Nemzet (Hungárián Nation) vrote about a mán who is a refugee in Hungary uhose wife and child tried to follow him intő Hungary bút were turnéd back by Hungárián bordér guards. In Szeged it came to light that two young Romanians, Bogdán Ovidia Adrián and Bogdán Roul, who carried legal passports were deported by the Hungárián authorities when they tried to cross from Hungary intő Yugoslavia. Today, January 2nd, a deportation order which the authorities tried to keep secret has been discovered. Two young mén from Transylvania, 25 year old István Nagy and 20 year old Levente Balázs, came over from Gyergyóalfalu in May carrying passports, they then received residence permits. István Nagy was informed that his wife had been arrested by the Securitate who then released her and tried to run her over. He wanted to get her intő Hungary bút received no help at all. In the hope that they would faré better in the West the young mén tried to cross intő Austria bút on Thursday December 29th the Hungárián bordér guards caught them and the Győr police took them intő custody until dawn today. They then pút them in a police cár and set off towards the Hungárián-Románián bordér at Nagylak aiming to hand them over to the Románián bordér guards. This only came to light at the last minute. The two young mén were already on their way to the Románián bordér when Imre Mécs, on behalf of the Free Democrats Alliance, and Ferenc Kőszeg, on behalf of the Independent Legal Defence Service, sent a telex message to the Party General Secretary Károly Grósz, to Imre Pozsgay Minister of State and to the Hungárián bordér guard headquarters. The message says that the deportation order is inhuman and illegal and continues "We demand that this deportation order is stopped immediately and that the public are informed. We ask fór measures to ensure no-one is deported to Románia where prison, torture or death awaits those who are handed back. We are shocked that the Hungárián authorities would rather show solidarity with the oppressive, fascist Románián dictator- ship than with the Hungárián nation. We ask fór rapid action. We will inform the people of the whole story and ask to obtain the greatest publicity". According to the aftemoon news István Nagy and Levente Balázs have been taken intő the custody of the Kecskemét police. The Ministry of the Interior declared that they would nőt hand over the Romanians and would allow them to go to Sweden if they récéivé permission to enter and if the independent Hungárián organisations pay their air fares.
