Diophora virginica F. in Hungary (Lepidopt., Arctiidae) By Z. Mészáros Budapest In the summer of 1951» author collected some specimens of an unknown Arctiid caterpillar south of the Capital, in Csepel. The breeding was successful and it transpired that the larvae were those of a North-American webworm, Diaphora virginica P. Since we have met with this moth at the same localitiy from where the spreading of another webworm, Hyphantrla cunea Drury intoduced also from North America and since established as a most severe pest in Central Europe, began, it is highly probable that the circumstances of their introduction were the same. Fortunately, there is no record yet of it having caused any damages, and it does not seem to be able to spread in its new country. Two native parasites have presently been bred from the caterpillars of D. virginica , the Hymenopteran Pimpla instigator F. and the Dipteran Tachina larvarum L. Irodalom - References 1.
