FOLIA ARCHAEOLOGICA XLV. 1996. BUDAPEST HUMAN REMAINS FROM THE NEOLITHIC SITE AT TISZALÚC-SARKAD Zsuzsanna К. ZOFFMANN Introduction The human remains from six of the nine burials at the Alföld Linear Pottery (ALP) site excavated at Tiszalúc-Sarkad were suitable for anthropological examination: the skeletal remains from graves 3-4 are lost, while the remains from grave 12 were not preserved. The metrical data of the examined human remains 1 are shown in Tables 1-3. The categorization of the metrical data is based on the system by Aleksejev-Debec. 2 The anthropological data of the fragmentary series have in part already been published. 3 Description of the finds Grave B-5 - 40-48 years old female Fhe base and the facial part of the fragmentary skull is missing. The ovosphenoid and house-shaped calvarium is very long, wide and very high, mesohypsi-acrocran, the wide forehead is metriometop. The bizygomatic breadth of the robust skull is very great. The body height, calculated from a single data, can be assigned to the high category. -The very strong torus palatinus and the crowding of the teeth around the lower left canine is the only anatomical variation. - The bones did not show any pathological deformities. There are no traces of caries on the 27 surviving teeth, but a cyst can be seen at the root of the upper PM2. The alveolus of the upper left PM1 and the two lower II are atrophied, the remaining six incisors are intact. Dental wear is of a degree of 3-4. Grave B-6 - Adultus-maturus male Only the fragmentary mandible and a few fragments of the skeletal bones have survived. - Anatomical variations or pathological deformations could not be observed on the surviving bones, the surviving six teeth do not show signs of caries. Dental wear is of a degree of 2-3. 1 Determination of sex: Ery-Kralovánszky-Nemeskéri 1963; determination of age: Nemeskéri-HarsányiAcsádi 1960; estimation of stature: Manouvrier 1893, Pearson 1899, Bach 1966 and Breitinger 1938. 2 Aleksejev-Dehec 1964 * Zojfmann 1991, 1992
