Abstracts 321 In the kitchen, apart from the members of the court, the citizens of Kolozsvár played important role in facilitating that every dishes and meals to be served properly and in time for the Prince and his court. The city covered the costs - as it was mentioned through the taxes levied by the city - that took the 8% net of the Kolozsvár’s budget. These expenditures were the highest as a percentage too under the reign of Gábor Báthory, later during the rule of Gábor Bethlen and the Rákóczis the cost decreased, while the rate and amount of the tax levied by the legislation steadily increased. The periods the Prince spent in the city offered excellent opportunities for lobbying for the city’s interests. Kolozsvár with adequate representation could grasp these chances implement them for the good of the city, because not only the Prince but the chieftains of Transylvania and the whole court were residing within the walls of the city. ZSUZSANNA CZIRÁKI “I supplicate Your Grace for making provisions about my host...” Representation of the Prince in Brassó in Case of the Visit of Gábor Bethlen The present paper deals with few aspects of the princely visits of Gábor Bethlen in Brassó, the most important city of the Transylvanian Saxons. My own research concerned with the urban history of Brassó - which focuses on the relations between the community and the princely authority under the reign of Gábor Bethlen - stands in the background of the said issue, studying the princely representation regarding the Saxons. As primary sources, the books of account of the city remained from that period (app. 4000 pages unpublished sources) were studied supplemented with the reminiscences of contemporary chroniclers of Brassó. After the elaboration of an own approach, a colourful picture revealed from that rich sources of data. In consequence of that the details of the princely visits can be reconstructed, for instance: the duties and tasks levied on the city regarding these occasions; and the application sophisticated diplomatic stratagems in the intercourses happened during the said visits between the autonomous community which heavily protected its privileges and the Prince who represented the central authority.
