PAGE 6 May 16, 1962 William Penn Excerpts of the Minutes of the Meeting (Continued from page 2) 28. President Macker requests that the Board terminate his representation of our Association on the American Hungarian Federation Board. The request of the President is granted. 29. The Board next discusses the appeal of Paul Magyary of Branch 45’, Cleveland, Ohio, from disciplinary action taken against him by the branch. Tt is resolved by the Board that the proper solution in this ease would be for President Macker to intervene in the matter and take whatever action he deems necessary to settle this matter amicably. 30. The Report of the Fraternal Affairs Department is now discussed in detail, and the following actions are taken thereon: a) Authorization is given for the purchase of 5,000 Christmas Carol booklets. b) Letters of protest received from Branch 132, South Bend, Indiana, Branch 130, East Chicago, Indiana, and Branch 129, Columbus, Ohio, are read. However, the Board regrets that it can not change its previous decision with reference to the Special Prize List of $1,200 in connection with the National Bowling Tournament. Branch 189, Alliance, Ohio, verbally protested. c) The Board approves the recommendation of the Fraternal Affairs Department as to how to allocate the amount of the Special Prize List so that each William Penn team win a cash prize. d) The Board sees possible merit in the request of the Fraternal Affairs Department to cite a member as MAN or WOMAN OF THE YEAR 1963. Therefore, the Board instructs the Fraternal Affairs Department to work out and submit detailed plans to the next meeting of the Board for its consideration. e) The request of the Fraternal Affairs Department to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the former Rákóczi Aid Association by declaring the year 1963 as RÁKÓCZI YEAR seems to indicate that this idea could be of' beneficial propaganda value to the Association. Therefore, the Board instructs the Fraternal Affairs Department to work out the details of its suggestion and submit these to the Fall meeting of the Board for consideration. f) The Board approves the request of the Fraternal Affairs Department to hold two Junior Bowling Tournaments on the first Sunday in September, 1962, one of these to be known as the Eastern Junior Bowling Tournament, to be held in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and the second one to be known as the Western Junior Bowling Tournament, which will be held either in Toledo, Ohio or South Bend, Indiana. The rules for the tournament shall be those as set forth by the American Junior Bowling Congress. The trophies for the winners will be furnished by the Association. g) The details of the Essay Contest, as suggested by the National Ladies’ Auxiliary, are adopted by the Board and the Fraternal Affairs Department is authorized to proceed along the lines outlined in the Fraternal Affairs Department’s report. h) The Report of the Fraternal Affairs Department is now adopted in. its entirety. 31. It is resolved by the Board that theM963 National Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days be held in New York City. 32. The request * of Branch 87, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to hold the 1963 tournament in Philadelphia is acknowledged. However, on the basis of the previous resolution, the request can not be complied with. 33. In recognition of his more than 20 years of faithful service to the Association as branch officer, the Board resolves that the Illustrious Citation be awarded to Nicholas Juhasz, President of Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio. 34. The Board regrets that it can not comply with Dayton, Ohio Branch 249’s request that members age 70 and over be relieved from the payment of branch fees. 35. President Macker thanks the Board members for their cooperation during the course of this meeting and wishes all safe journey home. 36. Board Chairman Varga extends his thanks and appreciation to the members of the Board for their fine cooperation during the past week and adjourns the meeting at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, April 14, 1962. IBOS JOSEPH KORJIONDY MICHAEL KOROSY JULIUS MACKER President Dr. ANDREW KOVÁCS STEPHEN LANG SR. FRANK M. MAGYARY FRANK RADVANY LOUIS VASSY 19th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament PRIZES AND SCHEDULE In previous years the list of prizes, schedule of events, and all other information pertaining to our national William Penn Bowling Tournament were put together in pamphlet form by the Fraternal Affairs Department, then mailed to the team captains who shared the knowledge of the contents with their respective team-mates. However, with each tournament some bowlers would protest that they were not sufficiently familiar with the information contained in the pamphlet, giving various reasons, and so this year, and perhaps hereafter, the prizes, schedule, etc. are published in the May WILLIAM PENN, both issues. We feel that our present action will not only give this tournament information wider and more prompt circulation among all the bowlers, but will be read with interest by the entire membership of all ages appreciative of the bowling sport, and the tournament should reap even greater benefits than heretofore. Our men and women bowlers will vie fraternally with one another for prizes adding up to $5,188.40, in team, double, and single events. It is then quite obvious that the William Penn teams render valuable service to our William Penn, and in gratitude our Board of Directors wishes to show that it is aware of all this. Therefore, the Board has established a separate fund of-$1200 named the WILLIAM PENN SPECIAL PRIZES FUND. According to the Registration Forms for our 19th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament, 23 men’s and 13 women’s teams bowled during the past season under the William Penn name, making a total of 36 teams eligible for the awards to be made from the WILLIAM PENN SPECIAL PRIZES FUND. In order to avoid any misunderstanding of this announcement, we wish to stipulate that these William Penn teams are obliged to appear at the tournament in sports or bowling shirts advertising the name of our Association in order to be eligible for the WILLIAM PENN SPECIAL PRIZES awards. If any of the aforementioned teams fail to comply with this simple directive, then the right of sharing in the awards will be denied them. According to the decision of the Board of Directors, the prizes, to b© given for team results or .scores, are to be distributed fair share to every William Penn team. In other words, the award of any one team can not be more than $35 nor less than $31.50. BOWLING SCHEDULE OF THE TOURNAMENT
