Cher) At the beginning of this year Field Supervisor Elmer Charles conceived a worthwhile idea. He appealed to his Field Force to drive for a goal of 600 new William Penn members within 60 days and to bring in $60,000 in premiums. Mr. Charles named this latest Field effort the M.B.D. (Macker Birth Day) Campaign, in honor of President Julius Macker who would soon celebrate his 60th birthday. It was a foregone conclusion that the faithful Field Force would not disappoint its sturdy leader nor fail to show its affection for the popular President, and so by March 12, when Mr. Macker celebrated his 60th birthday, the good Field. Men had signed into the Association 643 new members, with a total of $1,675,000 William Penn insurance, and, of course, the premium value of $60,000 was reached. Field Manager Charles surprised President Macker on March 12 when he neatly put on display the many natal day felicitations sent him by the Field Men, who noted on their cards how they had fared in the way of new members in the M.B.D. Campaign. The President's reaction was a very happy one. Seated at his desk is birthday recipient Mr. Macker, and standing left to right are his fellow Home Officers, Investment Manager Richard J. Phillips, Field Manager Elmer Charles, Controller John Sabo, Treasurer Julius E. Somogyi and Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics. Note oil painting of William Penn on wall. No William Penn Bowling Tournament-Fellowship Days could be successful without the hard and enthusiastic preliminary work of the Local Bowling Tournament Committee, which collaborates with the Administrator of the Fraternal Affairs Division. This double action is virtual assurance that all will go well and end well. Our figurative hats off to the Local Bowling Tournament Committee of Branch 129, Columbus, Ohio, shown grouped here: Seated, left to right: Louis Tokár, Division Manager; Mrs. Evelyn Boucher, Recording Secretary; Mrs. F. Paul and Mrs. E. Bolar, Directors; George Tokár, President of Branch 129 and Chairman of Board; Richard Stedman, Vice President of Branch 129. Standing: Kenneth Bolar, John Gaal and James Boucher, Directors; Benjamin Seckerson, Secretary-Treasurer of the William Penn Home; Carl Hoffman, Director. Absent from the picture are Fred Berdetti, Director, and Charles Stimpfle, Chairman of Advertising Committee. It has been real team-work between this committee and Fraternal Affairs Administrator Frank J. Cher. We have every reason to believe that the 19th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days in Columbus, Ohio, on June 2-3, will be one of our best. It’s Sooner Than You Think—THE TOURNAMENT NOTICE TO BOWLERS The bound William Penn Bowling Tournament Schedule and List of Prizes, heretofore compiled by the Fraternal /tffairs Division and mailed to the team captains, will this year be published by the Fraternal Affairs Administrator in the May Hungarian and English issues of the WILLIAM PENN. This will make for greater distribution of the very important information contained in Bowling Schedule-Prize List. No doubt some of our members, who month after month read the publicity given the William Penn Bowling Tournament-Fellowship Days in our official organ, feel that we write too much and too often about this event and are of the opinion that less written emphasis on it would be better. This idea of not playing up the tournament by way of our own membership publication is a fallacy. Though in the William Penn Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days we have the greatest single expression of our fraternal life, we know that we must give this affair our full journalistic attention if it is to enjoy maximum success. If by our constant publicity we influence only a few more members to attend the tournament for the first time, then we are truly satisfied. It is not necessary for us to sell the tournament idea to those who have already participated, for one attendance at our William Penn Bowling Tournament-Fellowship Days is the beginning of a grand yearly habit. Our repetitious and monotonous tournament articles serve their purpose well, even as a nice reminder to the habituals! Remember the big William Penn date:June 2-3, in Columbus, Ohio, where we shall be the guests of host Branch 129. At this point it is very important that certain facts relative to our big event be noted: The Neil House, in downtown Columbus, will accomodate our guests in more ways that one. The lodging there is, believe it or not, one of luxury without much expense, and, of course, the Victory Dinner-Dance will be held at The Neil House. Rainbow Lanes, not far from the hotel is truly modern and will be enjoyed both by bowlers and spectators. Scheduled buses, chartered for the William Penners, will be provided free of charge, and so every guest will have the opportunity of spending as much time as desired at Rainbow Lanes. The Victory Dinner-Dance will be held by Branch 129 on Saturday, June 2, beginning at 6. p.m., in the Neil House Junior Hall. Tables will be reserved and 14 guests will be seated at each table. Reserved tickets are $5.00 for non-bowlers and $4.00 for participating bowlers (whose one dollar registration fee is deducted from the banquet ticket), and these tickets entitle the holders to attend the dance. Reservations must be requested from the WILLIAM PENN DISTRICT OFFICE, 1501 S. Parsons Ave. Columbus 7, Ohio, accompanied by checks or money orders made out to WILLIAM PENN BRANCH 129, COLUMBUS, OHIO. The Neil House is reserving 600 rooms for our guests, so accomodations will be ample. Team captains will shortly receive their hotel reservation cards. They are asked to fill them out accurately and to mail them back promptly. Finally, both the hotel and the lanes offer excellent areas for eating and drinking. We strongly recommend, however, that our William Penn guests visit the local William Penn Club operated by Branch 129 and located in the same building with the William Penn District Office, where tasty Hungarian foods and refreshing drinks will be served Saturday and Sunday.
