PAGE 3 William Penn Death Takes Mother of President Macker Mrs. George Mekker (Macker), mother of President Julius Macker, died at the age of 86 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, on May 22, 1961. She had been ailing for about six months. Mr. Macker was with his mother when she expired. The deceased was laid out at the Magetti Funeral Home. We express our condolences to Mr. Macker who, mourning the death of his mother, did not flinch from carrying out his presidential duties at the recent Bowling Tournament and Diamond Anniversary Banquet-Dance. * * * The following filial tribute, written in Hungarian by Mr. iMacker and translated into English, expresses beautifully the well-known devotion which our President had for his mother, whose cares were his willing cares until the very end: MOTHER — UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN BRANCH BRIEFS TO OUR CONTRIBUTORS: The English WILLIAM PENN is published the THIRD WEDNESDAY of EVERY MONTH. These lines were written by me to perpetuate the memory of my dear mother who passed away May 22, 1961. I did not say good-by to her when death parted us here on earth. I merely said farewell as had been my custom these many years when we parted — farewell as only a dutiful son could say to his mother. As I kissed her for the last time I began to experience the feeling of emptiness enveloping me, sensing how alone I was and what an orphan I had become — even at my age — because Mother was gone and there could no longer be anyone whom I could call — Mother. These were my feelings when I held her hands, now cold, hands which toiled and slaved throughout a lifetime to rear me, hands which guided me in my first steps of childhood and even later in life. Everything ! have and everything I am today I can thank Mother. She brought me into this world and cared for me without a word of complaint. It was she who, after working hard all day, was at the bedside of her children if we complained during the night. With hands clasped in prayer she would watch over us children when illness struck, never murmuring because of her unending motherly duties. There were four of us children in the family, and we never lacked food for our mother devotedly provided for us. It was only in later life that I came to realize that many times Mother had nothing to eat but stale bread, sacrificing so that we could have more to eat to develop our growing bodies. Yes, she was a very good mother! Mother instilled faith, honor and respect in us. Woe unto us if we were not ready when the church bells rang, for she taught us to love and to serve God. I will never forget her admonition: “Always be a man of your word, because once it is found your word is not true you will no longer have the respect of your fellow men.” I was a young man when Mother had me brought to the New World, yet she still was very much solicitous for me. She taught me the love of family life and its grave responsibilities; she regarded my wife as her child; and the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were her whole life. Her name was Mary and she tried to live a life here on earth in a manner of our heavenly Mother Mary. She was loved by all who knew her — family, friends, relatives and neighbors — because she w as good. All these things, Mother, I thank you for. I always knew, but now know more than ever, that there can be only one Mother, and you were my Mother and will always remain so in fond memory. The vacuum your passing has left will remain an unfilled void. God granted you 86 years of life on this earth — good, fruitful, happy years. I pray God for your eternal rest.. May the eternal light shine upon you and may we some day meet again in the eternal heavenly life! Until then... your loving son. — JULIUS MACKER CiVT A PINT 1 OF BLOOD 1 Goit a •..........TODAY SAVE A LIFE * * * FRANK RADVANY W illiam Penn Director NOTICE The new address of Director Radvany is 820 Division St., ton, N.
