ALLIANCE, OHIO---------------------------------------------------------------------Branch 189 has surely been a silent branch up to now as far as the Journal is concerned, but believe me, we are all still jumping for joy ever'" time we see that beautiful trophy in our club rooms. Of course, everyone will remember that Alliance brought home THE TROPHY from Dayton and our buttons have been popping ever since! We are extremely happy and proud and do not intend to rest on our laurels — so watch out, all you bowlers! Our Wm. Penn Athletic Club is already on the ball and diligently working for this season’s bowling league. A whole busload of Athletic Club members is going to Cleveland soon to see our beloved Indians in action. Their interest in baseball doesn’t end there, either. They are the proud sponsors of a boy’s team in the GLeague known as the William Penn team and beautifully managed by Gene Mason. The youngsters have done very well and have lost only one game this season. Their pitchers have two no-hitters to their credit and that is something considering that G-leaguers are only nine and ten years oki. incidentally, I might mention that Alliance is the home of the Hot Stove League and that our parks and playgrounds are constantly alive with baseball games. Alliance is also the new home of 24 refugee families who were settled here mainly thru the tireless efforts of Michael Simo, our branch manager. Naturally we expect quite a few new members as they are definitely sports minded and have expressed a wish to join our bowling league. Mr. and Mrs. John Biltze have a brand new grandson who was almost LAPSED — APRIL 1957 Par. R. The proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Larry Call. John Hartzell and Judy Nichols were recently married. Judy is the reservationist at the Simo Travel Agency. Mike Korosy underwent surgery at the Alliance City Hospital August 1 and is convalescing nicely. The sudden death of Joseph Kandy was a blow to us all. His was a familiar face at the Club rooms and he is sorely missed by all his friends. We extend our sympathy to his family. Mr. George Toth, steward at the Club is sure doing a fine job. Our home looks wonderful and he and his wife and daughter who work side by side are certainly to be commended. We recently installed a new neon sign on Liberty Avenue just West of the Home. It looks great and we can be assured that no one will miss the location of Branch 189, Alliance, Ohio. We are pleased to announce a dinner dance wfiich will be held on Thanksgiving Eve., Wednesday, November 27. Tickets for this occasion can be secured from Michael Simo, 200 So. Arch Ave. You will eat luscious Swiss steak with all the trimmings cooked as only our Mrs. Tosha can, and later you will dance to the lilting music of Lou Sikora and his Society Notes. Gee, it almost takes me back to Dayton and the marvelous time we had at the tournament. We’re getting our reservations in early. How about you?? ALLIANCE HAS SPOKEN!!
