July 17, 1957. PAGE 11 William Penn MISS MAGYAR DUQUESNE Elvira Riczu was Miss Magyar Duquesne at the Hungarian Day program held June 27 in nearby Kennywood Park, Kennywood, Pennsylvania. Her attendants were Melvine Genes and Marion Tusay, also of Duquesne. Elvira who this coming term will be a senior at Duquesne High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve A. Riczu of 1008 Savey Street. The seventeen year old girl has two brothers, Robert J., 14, and Steve A., 4. The entire family holds membership in Branch 71-V, Duquesne, Pennsylvania. The 1957 Miss Magyar Duquesne said this at the Hungarian Day: Dear Hungarian Brethren: May I introduce myself. I am Elvira Riczu who was chosen Miss Magyar Duquesne. Permit me to thank you for the honor which you have bestowed on me. I will in no manner dishonor this distinction nor cause any harm to the Magyar name. Today the beautiful Hungarian Land is suffering anew. Let us all unite in prayer to petition God to grant the poor Hungarian people a new freedom and a new happiness, and may the music of the Magyars be gay rather than sad. Long live the heroic Magyars! Long live Hungary! I thank you. BRANCH 15-V — CHICAGO, ILL. — SENTINEL By: Ernest C. Taylor, Dist. Mgr. The hot, humid days of July are here and to follow them will be the hotter and more humid days of August. Just imagine only two more months and then the| good old bowling season will again start. There were over 20 of us that went to the Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days at Dayton, Ohio, and we all returned safe and sound. We did not win any big prizes or first places but we did have a very good time. With the exception of Ann Mladonicky, who did well for herself, the rest of us should have stayed in bed especially one Ernie Taylor. We have some visitors from Phoenix Arizona this month, the sister and the brother-in-law of Marge Fodor and the mother of Ginny Olsen. I hear by the grape vine that Donald Karling and his family are visiting his parents this month. They live in San Antonio, Texas. Don will be shipped overseas this month. Much luck to you, Don. Well, we have a brand new pet at our house accquired by my sons. It it a baby Raccoon. Some fun with the dog around the house also. Several more of the fellows heard their own wedding bells. Andy Janó vics’s son did it in June and Steve Herczeg acquired a daughter the same month. Emma Subsits’s son married also. I hear that John and Peg Fodor GIVE BLOOD MOW • CALL YOUR v RED CROSS TODAY! * NATIONAL BLOOD PROGRAM * are now grandparents. Also, member John Demeter of Albany Avenue became a grandfather. The best of all, however, is the fact that Steve and Sis Risko, of Lombard, Illinois, have just made a basketball team, as their 5th son was born in June. Ann and Tony Barango celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in June. Congratulations to both and may they see their 50th. I attended open house at Rose Muhr’s in June and had a grand time, loose’s cooking is superlative, as is Mary Horvath’s. Congratulations also to all the other women in the cooking of this very fine meal. Bill and Ann Pinter will very soon be moving into their new home in Norridge, Illinois. They will be my neighbors. Luck to Bill and Ann. I understand that the Julius Szabos were presented with an addition to their family. I am very sorry to have to report that the following members passed away: Joseph Posh, uncle and brother of the Szoo family; Emery Szumetz, father of Mrs. Thomas A. Sullivan; Charles Pensinger, stepfather of Tony Kovács and husband of Mrs. Charles Pensinger; Mrs. Esther (Toth) Cserni, mother of Alex Toth and Marge Small. To these bereaved families our condolences. AT THIS TIME I SHOULD LIKE TO HAVE EVERYONE TAKE NOTICE WHO WANTS TO BOWL THIS COMING SEASON. Congratulations to Mrs. Stephen Petruska who celebrated her birthday July 16th. Best of health and other good wishes from her husband, relatives and friends. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Cowan on the birth of their son at Mercy Hospital. The fourth congratulations — this time to Michael Havrilla who took 3d place honors in the Individual Handicap at the William Penn Tournament. On their trip to the tournament the occupants of the 1957 Nash Rambler photographed beautiful scenes of the Ohio countryside, using 8 mm. color movie film. Two weeks later this group met and thrilled to these movies. The bowlers of Branch 8-V and their friends enjoyed their Hungarian Day picnic at the Family Playground. Attention Branch 8-V members: Those of you who are not receiving the journal, either the English or the Hungarian issue, please get in touch with branch manager Stephen Petruska. Betty Faczan, teen-aged daughter of Director and Mrs. Michael J. Faczan, has been awarded the National Women’s Trophy for her high average score in the Junior Bowling (Leagi’/:. Betty’s team took first place. Thru the grapevine we heard that the automobile of the Branch 8-V Bowling League secretary had been entangled in a three car collision at 4th Avenue and Broad Street.
