October 16, 1957 PAGE 5 William Penn BRANCH 59-V, SCALP LEVEL, PENNSYLVANIA OBSERVES 50th ANNIVERSARY WITH BANQUET AND DANCE Over two hundred persons attended the 50th Anniversary banquet and dance of Branch 59-V, Scalp Level, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, September 28, 1957, the affair being held at the Hunter-Weaver V. F. W. Home. An additional highlight of this very fine event was the citation of two veteran officers of Branch ing, Mr. Louis Vizi, National Director, and Branch President of 59-V. Mr. Vizi did a very fine job in handling the duties of the Master of Ceremonies, making his introductions brief and to the point. After introducing many of the notables who attended the affair Mr. Vizi called upon National Auditor John in the United States of America, having approximately ninety thousand members with assets totaling over twenty-five million dollars. Mr. Sabo reviewed the facts that led to the merger of the former Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association with the Rákóczi Aid Association in 1955 to make the Wil-Dual Celebration At Scalp Level, Pennsylvania Branch 59-V, Scalp Level, Pennsylvania on September 28, 1957 celebrated its 50th Anniversary and also honored two members of Branch 347-V, Nettleton, Pennsylvania. Above are shown STEPHEN and JOHN OLEXA (holding citations) brothers, members of Branch 347-V, who received the Associations highest award the Illustrious Citation. The members and friends who attended this fine banquet were treated to a fine roast beef dinner with the additional trimmings such as dressing, whipped potatoes, green beans, com. Delicious fruit salad and home baked cake was served after the main course together with coffee. This affair was one of the finest ever attended by the Officers of the William Penn Fraternal Association. Mr. Louis Vizi, Director of the Organization, who is President of Branch 59-V, certainly has set an example which can very well be followed by many of our branches, especially those located in our larger industrial centers. The audience was very receptive to the speeches that were made during the evening, maintaining a silence during the speaking program that certainly speaks well for the members and friends of Branch 59-V. Invocation was rendered by Reverend Father Gottfried Kugler, new Pastor of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Windber, Pennsylvania. Prior to the invocation the audience sang the National Anthem. After the invocation, rendered by Reverend Kugler, dinner was served. After the dinner Joseph Miller, Branch Manager of Branch 59-V addressed the audience relating some of the events of the past, summing up his speech with the introduction of the Master of Ceremonies of t.re even-Sabo to address the audience. Mr. Sabo acknowledged the introduction, paying tribute to Mr. Louis Vizi, as President of Branch 59-V, for doing such a wonderful job of building the branch to its present goal. Today Branch 59-V, despite the fact that the majority of its members live in the Scalp Level, Pennsylvania, Windber, Pennsylvania area, small communities where their predominate occupation is coal mining, today is one of our larger branches of the Association, having a membership over eight hundred. This success, chiefly is due to Mr. Louis Vizi, and his faithful co-workers over the long period of years. The Association, in recognition of the fine progress being made at Scalp Level, Pennsylvania, paid significant tribute to this community when over eighteen years ago it selected its President to serve on the Board of Directors. Mr. Vizi, Mr. Sabo noted, has already served eighteen years on the Board of Directors and is well respected, contributing very much to the progress of the entire association. Mr. Sabo then outlined the history of the William Penn Fraternal Association. He informed the group that seventy-one years ago in Hazelton, Pennsylvania thirteen Hungarian miners joined together to protect themselves and their families from illness, as well as tu provide benefits in the event of death of anyone of them. Seventy-one years later the Association has become one of the largest fraternal organizations liam Penn Fraternal Association the largest Hungarian fraternal organization in the world. He also informed the members and guests of the associations plans pertaining to the erection of an office building, on property purchased in downtown Pittsburgh. He called attention of the audience to the very progressive leadership that is now at the helm of the William Penn organization, he noted that there is a much younger element leading the organization today and an element which demands growth and progress as well as promotion of the fraternal activities of the organization. He reminded everyone that this leadership is made up of the very capable men, namely Coloman Revesz, National President, Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary, Julius E. Somogyi, National Treasurer, Elmer Charles, Field Manager, Richard J. Phillips, Investment Manager, Gay B. Banes, Legal Advisor, Dr. Samuel C. Gomory, Chief Medical Advisor. In behalf of all these officers and the Board of Directors Mr. Sabo extended his congratulations and best wishes to the members and Officers in the observance of their 50th Anniversary banquet. Mr. Sabo also paid attenion to the two honored Officers of one of the other branches .Branch 347-V, namely Stephen and John Olexa, brothers, who received the highest award of the Association, namely the Illustrious Citation, together with a gold, diamond-studded pin for more than twenty-five years of service. He congratulated these men and wished them continued success and good health in the future. Elmer Charles, Field Manager of the Association was also called upon to speak, Mr. Charles congratulated the Branch and extended his best wishes to the two officials who were cited. Mr. Charles informed the group that it was his job to see to it that the Association’s progress membership wise was continued day after day. He told the audience that the Association can move forward only if all members cooperate with the branch officers, especially the branch manager in the securing of new members for the organization. He paid tribute to the leadership of Mr. Louis Vizi, Branch President and to Joseph Miller, the Branch Manager, and all the other Officers of the branch. Director Julius Lenart, from McKeesport, Pennsylvania extended his personal greetings and best wishes to the Officers and members of Branch 59-V and praised the two veteran workers for their untiring efforts in behalf of the Association. Field Supervisor, Gus Nagy, also of McKeesport, Pennsylvania addressed the group in Hungarian congratulaing the branch and asking the members to cooperate with their branch officers. Legal Advisor, Gay B. Banes, also of McKeesport, Pennsylvania briefly addressed the group, adding his congratulations and best wishes to the branch and to the two cited members. Mr. Louis Vizi, Director and President of the branch presented the first Illustrious Citation to Stephen Olexa, Que Creek, member of Branch 347-V. Mr. Vizi praised Mr. Olexa for the contributions that he made over the many years of service he rendered in behalf of the Association. He presented Mr. Olexa with a framed citation and a gold, diamond-studded pin which he pinned on Mr. Olexa’s lapel. Mr. Michael Faczan, National Director from Johnstown, Pennslyvania presented the Illustrious Citation to the brother of Stephen Olexa, John Olexa, Nettleton, Pennsylvania also member of Branch 347-V. Mr. Faczan reminded one and all that this award was the highest award that can be bestowed by the Board of Directors of the William Penn Fraternal Association. He asked Mr. Olexa to continue working in behalf of the Association, especially so now' because with the merger of the two great former Rákóczi and Verhovay Associations there was need for good capable branch officials. After turning over to Mr. Olexa the framed citation he pinned a gold, diamond-studded pin on Mr. Olexa’s lapel. Toastmaster Louis Vizi and Branch Manager Joseph Miller read several congratulatory messages. Letters and telegrams were received from the following: Congressman John P. Saylor, State Senator J.
