PAGE 2 January 16, 1957 William Penn GREATER PITTSBURGH CHAPTER, AMERICAN HUNGARIAN FEDERATION COORDINATED HUNGARIAN RELIEF (Continued from page 1) Hungarian communities of Allegheny County, worked diligently with the staff of officers, accumulating relief funds to be used in helping the Hungarian victims. As of January 4, 1957, there was collected a grand total of S5.584.19 for Hungarian Relief and $76.00 for Federation dues. All money collected for Hungarian Relief is forwarded to national headquarters at Washington, D. C., to the American Hungarian Federation Coordinated Hungarian Relief Fund. National offices are located at 527 Mills Building, Pennsylvania Ave. and 17th Street, N. W., Washington, D. C. Our readers’ attention is called to the magnificent cooperation of the Grand Committee of Churches, Lodges and the Hungarian Social Club of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. This group through its capable leadership donated a large share of the above-mentioned contributions. It is notable to mention that William Penn Fraternal Association Branch No. 226-V of Me Keesport donated the tidy sum of $500.00. St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church gave $333.00. the Free Magyar Reformed Church contributed $250.00 and the Transfiguration of Our Lord Greek Catholic Chureh, also of McKeesport, turned over $100.00. The Hungarian Social Club of McKeesport showed its generosity to the tune of $300.00 .There were other nice donations from McKeesport which can be found in the listing below. It is worth mentioning at William Penn Director Julius J. Lenart, 'Margaret Kerezsi, Secretary of the Chapter, who teaches at McKeesport High School, and Ethel Halas, an employee at the William Penn Home Office, did a splendid job of soliciting contributions, as well as helping coordinate relief plans in the McKeesport area. Miss Kerezsi alone solicited $394.00. Margaret Beres, who also is employed at the William Penn Home Office, enthusiastically collected and turned over the sum of $370.00. Harry Black, Chairman of the Republican Party at the Pittsburgh First Ward, collected $242.00 from his friends. Mr. Black was one of the first to volunteer his services. We are indebted also to Mr. Andrew Fay Fisher, owner and publisher of the Hungarian Miners’ Journal, because he chose to turn over all contributions made by his subscribers, made up chiefly of Hungarian coal-miners, to the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, American Hungarian Federation. John Hornyak, Farmington, W. Va., former Verhovay director, himself turned over $122.00. One of the nicest gifts to be received was from the United Steelworkers of America, District No. 13, Local Union No. 1758, Donora, Pa. a check amounting to $300.00. Sister M. Svlvanus of the Saint Elizabeth’s High School, Pleasant Hills, and Miss Cynthia Krasinski of Section 910. Room 213, ’Mt. Lebanon High High School, turned over contributions made by their pupils at Christmas time. Miss Mary V. Quissenberry, member of the East End Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, contributed $135.00. These are only some of the donations to which the readers’ attention has been called. All contributions, received through January 4, 1957, are listed below. At this point we make mention of a blood pledge made in a resolution, dated December 10, 1956, by more than one hundred officers and airmen of the Pittsburgh Air Reserve, who are making blood donations for medical help to the wounded Freedom Fighters of Hungary. Colonel Max G. Feldman made this offer of pledges to National Auditor John Sabo, President of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Hungarian Federation and a Director of the national organization, and to National Secretary Albert J. Steikovics. also a Director of the American Hungarian Federation. (See picture and story elsew here in this issue.) The officers of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Hungarian Federation express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to each and every contributor. The funds collected will be used properly to help provide relief to refugees in this country and in Austria. The Hungarian people need our assistance. We will do our utmost to render whatever aid we can. Contributions may be made by check or money order to GREATER PITTSBURGH CHAPTER, AMERICAN HUNGARIAN FEDERATION, COORDINATED HUNGARIAN RELIEF, 436 FOURTH AVENUE, PITTSBURGH 19, PA.
