Yes, Louis Sikora and his Society Notes are going to make you want to dance at the big Fellowship Days grand social — the Victory Dinner-Dance. POWER CITY NEWS SPRINGDALE. PA. AND VICINITY by EDWARD A. MATTIE BRANCH 269-V. Another milestone has been reached in the history of Branch 296-V. Some of you may have heard by now that, effective May 1, 1957, a District Office was established locally. Appointed to the position of District Manager was John Lee Balia. of 548 George Street, New Kensington. Mr. Balia has taken over the duties that were performed by this writer as branch manager. I should like to say that it is a privilge to step down voluntarily in favor of someone who sincerely has the Association at heart and who, I am sure, will do his utmost to give better service to the membership. Disrict Manager Balia is working on a full time basis, a need which was long overdue at Branch 296-V. The appointment of a full time man was made so that the members be better served. Anyone desiring to contact Mr. Balia may do so by calling him at his home, EDison 57693, or at Springdale 2127, the number at the District Office at 130 Walter Lane, Springdale. Regular office hours will be announced later. Frank Fintor was appointed steward at the Branch Home as of March 11th. He replaced Alex Toaso who had served in that capacity for almost two years. The Toasos have moved to their new home on Greensburg Road, New Kensington. Frank Fintor should be well known amongst the membership. His father served twice as steward at the Old Verhovay Home on Colfax Street. Best wishes to Frank in his new work. Those who do not know Mr. Fintor are invited to get acquainted with him and his very charming wife. * ^5 * Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Garland Howell on the birth of a son, their first... To Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Balash, Jr., a son, their second... to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Balash, a daughter after having three sons. This is the first girl after a long line of boys in the Balash clan .,. Also, to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Polombo for twin daughters. * * * Branch meetings are held the SECOND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH at 3:00 P. M. Why not take an active part in branch affairs? There is dancing every Friday and Saturday night in the Social Quarters. On Friday nights Ozzie St. Cross and his orchestra plays and on Saturday nights it is The NU-TONES orchestra featuring polkas and slow dances. Come have a good time. Saturday, June 22d Arthur Nagy and his orchestra will play for the dancing in the Ball Room. * * * At the coming Tournament-Fellowship Days, which is to be held at Dayton, Ohio on May 25th and 26th, Branch 296-V will be represented by four men’s and two women’s teams. We hope to come back with a prize or two ... maybe three! * $ * It is with deep regret that I report a number of deaths of members or relatives of members. Branch 296-V and its members extend their deepest sympathies to the family of Andrew Pavilik who passed away on April 1st... to the family of John Pavilik who passed away on the same day. John was the brother of Andrew and the father of Mrs. Stephen Hegedűs, Jr ... to Sam and Rose Chiappetta whose mother passed away after a long illness.......and to the family of Wendell Koosz who passed away on April 22d. May they rest in peace! * * *• At this time I should like to urge the members of Branch 296-V, particularly our many members in West moreland County, to give their support at the primaries this month to Mayor Raymond E. Gardlock who is up for reelection on the Democratic ticket. Mayor Gardlock has been a member and a very good friend of this organization for many years. He deserves your support and the support of your friends. John Lee Balia was appointed District Manager of the William Penn Fraternal Association, date of May 1, 1957. He is managing Branch 296-V, Springdale, Pennsylvania. The new District Manager is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Balia of 548 George Street, New Kensington, Pennsylvania. His father, very active in local William Penn affairs, is a member of our Board of Directors. The younger Balia graduated from the New Kensington Vocational School in 1949. He is a Navy veteran and was a 2d Class Petty Officer when discharged in 1953. He was employed by the Aluminum Company of America before coming to the William Penn. Like his Director father, Balia has also been active in Br. 296-V life and functions. He served as a trustee of the Springdale William Penn Home and, as a member of the 296-V Bowling Team, will be in Dayton for the Tournament-Fellowship Days. Best wishes to you in your new position, District Manager Balia! NEWLYWEDS Mr. and Mrs. William BiLisics radiate the happiness of a couple on their wedding day. Mr. Billisics is the nephew of Frank Balogh, Sr.? secretary of Branch 15-V, Chicago, Illinois, and prominent for many years in our Association and branch activities of the Chicago area. The newlyweds are members of Branch 15-V. JOINS FIELD FORCE
