Branch News Members of Branch 249 welcome Santa to Dayton, Ohio, and the branch's Christmas party. Members of the embroidery class at the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport, Pa., gather in front of the "Hearts of Hungary" tree they decorated with their handmade ornaments and which won first place at the city’s annual Festival of Trees. Gathered are (clockwise from top, left): Sandy Ghrist, Gerry Nelson, Wendy Dorman, Malvene Heyz and Denise Hurley. Happy birthday and happy anniversary wishes to all our members celebrating their special day this month—stay warm! Big congratulations to new parents Tim and Tara Holtzman on a beautiful and healthy baby girl, Raya. Best wishes on this challenging journey of parenthood, full of heart-warming memories. Keep those who have lost a loved one in your prayers; this is not an easy time for their families and friends. Keep our military, here and abroad, in your thoughts and prayers. Our branch was able to participate in the annual Holiday Baskets Program and donated three baskets: one each to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, the Sonshine Kitchen and the McKeesport Intersection. I will report on the children's Christmas party and branch elections in the February issue. Photos coming soon! The embroidery class at the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport won first place in the adult handmade category with their creation, the "Hearts of Hungary" Christmas tree, at the Festival of Christmas trees contest in McKeesport. The students created handmade, embroidered decorations for the tree. This is an annual event. Visit them next year. The time for our branch meetings has changed. Our February meeting will be held the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at Branch President Malvene Heyz's home. Please call 412-751-1898 if the weather is bad. We welcome all members. Our local fraternal family turned out in large numbers for our annual Christmas party held Dec. 11 at the American Czech Club. Over 50 people came to watch comedian, magician, juggler and ventriloquist Mike Hemmelgarn give a very entertaining show. The food was delicious, as usual, and Santa had a big welcome from the 20 children as they gladly told him what presents would make them the happiest on Christmas morning. All-in-all, everyone left filled with the holiday spirit. With the holiday let down of January, we sure don't want to forget to wish everyone having a birthday or an anniversary a very special day. May you have many more. Get well wishes go out to those under the weather or hospitalized. May 2017 find you in better health.
