Spring is almost here —HURRAY!! — and with it comes all sorts of fun things to do: celebrating St. Patrick's Day, flying a kite or preparing for Easter, to name a few. But, one thing that we all have to do in the spring that may not seem like a lot of fun is spring cleaning. Here are some ways to turn a boring chore into a fun activity. Our thanks to Brightpeak Financial, a division of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, for these great ideas. • 10-Minute Tidy - You'll need a simple kitchen timer and a large cardboard box to play this cleaning game. Pick a room to clean. Put the box in the middle of that room. Set the timer for 10 minutes. Then, ask a grown up to say "10-Minute Tidy!" and start the timer. Your goal is to fill the box with items that belong in another room before the 10 minutes is up. Can you do it? This is a great way to get rid of those piles of shoes, mail, books and other things that seem to pile up where they really don't belong. • Donate, Give & Keep - We all have things we don't need or want anymore but that can be used by someone else. For this cleaning game, get 3 cardboard boxes and put them in your room. Label one box "Donate" another "Give" and the third "Keep." Separate everything in your room into each box as follows:- The Donate box is for items you want to give to charity.- The Give box is for items you can give to someone.- The Keep box is for items you want to keep but need to be organized or stored away. Once you're done, you'll love seeing how much more room you will have after you get rid of things you don't fit in or play with anymore. And you'll feel good when you think of kids who might be happy to receive your items. These are just a couple of ways to make spring cleaning a bit more fun. And, we bet your parents will really be happy for all your help! We're building a new JUST4 K(DZ section, and we need your help. We'd like to know what kinds of things YOU would like to read about in these pages each month. What kind of activities would you like to learn about? What kind of crafts do you like to make? What type of food you'd like to learn how to make for yourself? Share your ideas with us and you could win one of three gift cards. The kid with the best idea will receive a $25 gift card. We'll also be awarding a $15 gift card and a $5 gift card to the next two best ideas. All you need to do is write down your best idea for fun activities, crafts or recipes and send it to: Just4IGdz c/o William Penn Association 709 Brighton Road Pittsburgh, PA 15233-1821 OR, tweet your idea by tagging #WPALife with the help of a grown-up.
