Branch News Edith Zamberry, mother of Branch 89 members Debra and Michelle Zamberry, passed away recently. be a little darker without her shining smile, but we know she has gone on to a better place. Edith is also survived by two sisters, Helen Zoldos and Elizabeth Mastilik, and a son Roland. May God watch over everyone during this difficult time. On a brighter note, we've got sunshine and warm weather. It must be golf season! Work has already begun to make our Branch 89 golf outing our biggest and best yet. We have in our possession over $1,000 worth of prizes and auction items. We are expecting over 100 golfers and an additional 30 diners this year. Don't be shy—be a hole sponsor. If you want to donate a basket or just some items, we could really use Hungarian wines. They will go well with Chef János' Hungarian food basket! Lottery tickets are another necessary item. Come on down. Join us at Butler's Golf Course on Aug. 13. At the beginning of March, the Branch's Hungarian kitchen, under the watchful eye of Chef János, made and sold 180-plus quarts of Hungarian gulyás. Everyone participated, and there was much fellowship. Not only that, the gulyás was so good that there was a request of the kitchen for more. Chef J sprung into action and at the end of March made another 225 quarts. Fewer than 30 are left! Chef J, with a wink and nudge, has a secret plan to expand his kitchen in the near future. Stay tuned. What could he be thinking? There's a rumor it might be kolbász making with another branch. Now that's fraternalism! More information to follow. Branch 89 continues to support our church caretaker and her family as they deal with the fallout from her daughter being at the wrong place at the wrong time. In spite of threats and intimidation by the shooter and others, this 14-year-old girl refused to be intimidated and has identified them for the police. Our caretaker's family was put in protective custody and could not return to their house. With the help of donations from several branch officers and even more branch members, the family is making a go of it in a new house in a new school district. So far, our branch has contributed three twin size beds, a bedroom set, new bedding, food, money and clothing. Branch Auditor Mark Maskarinec continues with the task of sprucing up the church. We are planning on having a Join Hands Day project during which we will plant some flowers to brighten the front of our church. This started as a Lenten devotion but will continue on throughout the year. Next up: putting a shine on the floor and refurbishing the counter tops in our social hall. Mark says: "As my mother used to say, 'There isn't much in this world that can't be made better with a bar of soap or a coat of paint.'" Our branch hosted its first "Dining for Dough" luncheon at Uno's Chicago Restaurant at the Waterfront in Homestead on May 21. The branch received a percentage on the amount of money spent on food. Blue Moon donated pilsner glasses to everyone in attendance who decorated them with paints supplied by Uno's. This was a fun event which everyone, male and female, young and old, could participate in. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Special get well wishes continue to be sent to branch members Fred Gabocy and George Rostival and to Betty Rubinsak. We plan on seeing you up and navigational real soon. Birthday greetings to Branch Vice President Mark S. Maskarinec on June 9. Is it true you plan on spending it doing what you love—golfing? May you have a day as special as you are and many happy returns. Stay happy and try and support not only our branch events but also the golf outing and picnic hosted by WPA. You'll be supporting our Scholarship Foundation and have fun while you're doing it. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Debbie Lewis Hope everyone has been enjoying warm weather even though summer doesn't officially start until June 21. The next few months are the time many families take vacations, so please be safe in all your travels. Also, please watch out for kids playing outside and watch out for motorcycles, as they can sometimes be hard to see. Congratulations to all our members who are graduating from high school or college this year. Good luck with all your future education plans or job searches. Important days for the month of June are: • Flag Day, June 14. Display your flag proudly. • Father's Day, June 18. Thank your father and grandfather for all they do for your families. Hope all fathers have a great day! Our branch participated in an Easter basket program with the Columbus YMCA this year. We made 85 Easter baskets for the children staying at the YMCA homeless shelter. We had 12 members participating, helping to make up the baskets and volunteering at a special party for the children. Thanks to the Home Office for all your help. We congratulate our Columbus branch team on their first place finish at the WPA Bowling Tournament. Team members are Diane Walker, Chris Boso, Jimmy Lewis and Rick Lewis. We also had three juvenile bowlers participate again this year: Dylan, Tyler and Brooklyn Boso. Congratulations to all the bowlers who participated to make this another fun fraternal event. WILLIAM PENN LIFE 0 June 2017 0 25
