Branch News So, for our branch Easter Basket project we will collect items that Beverly's Birthdays generally requests for birthday celebration treat bags: • new reading books (age 0- young adult) • new coloring/activity books (adult coloring books and Sudoku, as well) • new coloring utensils (crayons, colored pencils, etc.) • individually packaged soft toothbrushes (youth and adult types) • individually boxed tubes of toothpaste As noted, all of these items must be new since they are being given as a gift. Please bring them to our next meeting (April 6) or you may contact me at my email: makelly367@ verizon.net or call me at: 724-274- 5318 if you have any questions. You may visit the Beverly's Birthdays website at www.beverlysbirthdays.org. Won't you please be a part of Branch 296 helping to create exciting birthday memories for these children? Attention all WPA high school seniors: please check your eligibility status for our WPFA Scholarship Foundation grants. Eligibility rules and an application can be found on pages 14 to 16 of this issue and the WPA website at wivw.iopalife.org. Be aware that we now require all students — new and renewals — to complete an application. It's important that you review all of the rules. All applications and essays must be postmarked by May 31. Lastly, please note the Sept. 15 deadline for any outstanding documents requested. The scholarship grant is a terrific fraternal benefit for our collegebound members that should not be overlooked! Celebrating his 98th birthday this month is John Torma Sr. It is a pleasure mentioning Mr. Torma, a WWII vet who truly served above and beyond the call of duty. We salute you, sir, and sincerely wish you a happy birthday. And, may those of you celebrating your birthdays and anniversaries in April have a memorable day. We also remember those who are not feeling well, especially those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. God bless each of you. For our May 11 meeting, when we will be doing our annual Join Hands Day project, we will start at 5:30 p.m., one hour earlier than usual. During this brief meeting, we'll decorate and assemble snack bags to deliver to Pittsburgh's Ronald McDonald House, which is right next door to Childrens' Hospital. This has become a nice tradition for Branch 296, and we're asking for volunteers, both youth and adult. If any youth members need community service hours for school, we will be happy to sign off on that for you. This is a fun and easy project that demonstrates our fraternal spirit; we'll have great conversation, compliment and encourage one another, and finish with a treat from King's. Please mark May 11 on your calendars and "join hands" with us. Our local agent, Noreen Fritz, is happy to assist you with any of your life insurance and annuity needs. Email Noreen at noreenbunny.fritz@ verizon.net or call her at 412-821-1837. Noreen attends most of our branch meetings, and if you have any questions, I know that she would happily spend time listening. Happy Easter to all of you. After a very confusing winter, spring has officially arrived! Enjoy the milder weather, and let's begin to cheer on our Buccos! Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dora McKinsey Happy Easter to all! Easter is April 16 this year, and I hope the weather is warm enough so that the Easter bunny doesn't have to wear a winter coat! April showers bring May flowers. I hope this old saying turns out to be true. There's something calm and peaceful about seeing those first buds push through the soil. This is the time of the year when we look forward to all the fraternal events coming up. Make sure you check out each issue of William Penn Life to keep updated on all the details for each event. Just a reminder for any Branch 352 members who are eligible to apply for a scholarship grant from the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Be watchful of the deadlines to send in the necessary information to apply for a scholarship. See pages 14 to 16 for all the details. Special prayers and get well greetings go out to all our members who are ill. May God's grace carry you through to good health. Happy birthday to all those celebrating a birthday in April. May you have many more, and may all of them be healthy. Our condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one recently. May your memories sustain you through this difficult time. On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who sent sympathy cards and offered prayers on the death of my sister, Cindy. Cindy battled ovarian cancer for over seven years and lost her battle in February. The small certificate she had with WPA was the only life insurance she had. It can't be stressed enough that everyone should have enough life insurance to cover, at a minimum, burial costs. If you would like to discuss additional life insurance coverage, contact me, and I will be able to help you apply for additional insurance. If you have any news you would like to share, or if you have any insurance questions, please contact me at 412-932-3170 or by email at dmckinsey@hotmail.com. If you are involved in any volunteer work, please contact me so that your efforts can be posted in William Penn Life. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Joan B. Ballash We wish all readers a very holy and happy Easter. We also remember our Jewish friends as they celebrate Passover. Thank you to the Home Office for once again encouraging us to assist those in need by conducting the Join Hands Against Hunger campaign and providing incentives for branches to participate. We responded by donating to the St. Vincent de Continued on Page 32 30 0 April 2017 0 WILLIAM PENN LIFE
