Branch News to hear all the stories of their travels. I hear the World A'Fair in Dayton May 16 to 18 was a big success. This is a weekend when many groups of different nationalities come together to celebrate their customs and heritage, much as we do with any WPA event. The Festival Club of Dayton Dancers performed, and hundreds of cabbage rolls, pastries and pounds of sausage were sold to support the dancers. We did not get to work with the club this year because two local members, my daughter Cassie and Greg Heitman, got married May 17 in Columbus. They had a beautiful wedding at St. Joseph Cathedral and a reception at the State Capitol. After honeymooning in Jamaica, they returned to Columbus to set up their home. We wish them all the best in the future. Love you guys! For June, our Join Hands Day project will be to spruce up the Old North Dayton Park and replace the American and Hungarian flags. The park is in the center of an area that has been home to Hungarian, Polish, Lithuanian and, more recently, Turkish immigrants. This event will be on June 14. Please call Michele Daley-La Flame at 937-278-5970 or me if you can come and help. We will be hosting a night at the Dayton Dragons minor league baseball game on June 28 at 7:00 p.m. We will sit in the Dragon's Lair and receive special Dragon baseball hats. Get your reservations in now, just $11. The Dayton Dragons continue to set records for the most consecutive sell outs and have recently passed the 1,000-game mark. These tickets are hard to get. Keep the weekend of July 18 and 19 open for the 31st Annual WPA Golf Tournament & Scholarship Days at Quicksilver Golf Club. A full weekend of fraternal fun is scheduled, so I hope we see you there. With the Friday reception, Chinese auction, Mini-Monte Carlo night and kid events, you don't even need to golf to have fun. And the barbeque Saturday is another fun highlight. Get your reservations in now so you don't miss out. Get well wishes to any branch members, relatives and friends who are ill. We send special prayers to Annie Kertesz as she recuperates in the nursing home. Our condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one recently. May your memories sustain you through this difficult time. We congratulate all those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and new additions to their families. For your annuity or life insurance needs, please contact Michele Daley- LaFlame at 937-278-5970 or Mark or Anne Marie Schmidt at either 937- 667-1211 or amschmidt318@msn.com. Remember, if you have any news you would like to share in our branch articles, please get the information to me before the 10th of the month before the event. I hope you hit 'em long and straight at the golf tournament. See you there! Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary Ann Kelly-Lovasz Welcome to our newest Branch 296 members! June is a terrific month, and we welcome it with open arms! School is finally out, and probably late, since so many snow and cold weather days were necessary from the miserably long winter we endured. Enjoy the outdoors as much as you're able to; winter will return before we know it. We're hoping that you were able to attend our Fourth Annual Tri- State Picnic at Scenic View. If not, we're looking forward to seeing you in September for the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest also at Scenic View on Sept. 6. On May 12, Branch 296 participated in our annual Join Hands Day project for the Ronald McDonald House, located near Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital. I'll let you know all about it in our July branch news. Birthday greetings to all of our members celebrating their special day in June, including Branch Vice President Marge Kosheba. Happy anniversary and congratulatory wedding wishes to our June brides and grooms, too. We hope that Irene Charles is on the mend and able to join us at a future meeting. To our members who have recently lost a loved one, we extend our condolences. Magnificent adulation to all dads out there, and a happy Father's Day to you. We love you and appreciate you more than you realize. My husband John is a great dad, and so is John, my father-in-law. Enjoy your special day, dads, you've earned it. Rest in peace to all of those dads and grandpas who are no longer with us in this earthly life. Memories of each of you remain in our hearts. We're in the planning stages of bringing back our bacon roast event. We are leaning toward a date in late September. I will keep you posted as plans develop. Branch 296 will be taking its summer vacation. Please plan on joining us at our next regular meeting, Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m., at the King's Family Restaurant in New Kensington. We hope to see you then or even before. Contact our friendly and helpful agent, Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF, at 412-821-1837 or at noreenbunny.fritz@ verizon.net for your life insurance and annuity needs. Branch 336 Harrisburg, PA by Barbara Kreiser As I write this, it is sunny and beautiful outside. Thank goodness! It's finally almost summer and time for some fun summer activities. We are looking forward to our annual Verhovay golf outing and picnic on July 12 at the Manada Golf Course. It will feature a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $65, which includes golf, food, beer and a ticket for the picnic. If you would like to join us for golf, the picnic or both, either call or stop by the club for more information. We are also looking forward to the WPA Golf Tournament & Scholarship Days in July. We will have a few foursomes, and we hope to win the day for Branch 336! All are invited to the Verhovay Home Association where we will continue to have bands and DJs throughout the summer.
