Branch News ladies looked great in their "Derby" hats. Congratulations to Andy and Valerie for completing the Pittsburgh Half Marathon. Way to go!! Happy and healthy birthday wishes to everyone celebrating their birthdays in June. Many, many more. If you have any news you would like to share, please contact Andy McNelis at 412-421-6031. For information about WPA life insurance and annuity policies, please contact Branch Coordinator Maria Bistey at 412-431-6035. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Lisa S. Toth-Maskarinec Rainy day Monday, but here comes the sun! That means golf and baseball season begins. See ya later, cabin fever; bring on those links! The date is set for our first Night at the Baseball Park, Thursday, June 12. To make this even more special, there will be a craft beer sampling before the game starting at 5:30 p.m. We will be sitting in the special Pittsburgh Baseball Club seating, Section 213, between home plate and the first base side of the ballpark. Price for this night is $50 and includes your seats, admission to the beer sampling and a $5 concession ticket. We have a limited amount of seats for this game, so call and make your reservations today. The Pirates will be playing the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. To make reservations, please call Lisa or Mark Maskarinec at 412-872-5022. We need your help! We would like to honor the oldest member of our branch with a surprise at an upcoming meeting and we need to know who this person may be. If you believe you are the oldest member of Branch 89, please let Branch President, John S. Toth know or contact Lisa Toth-Maskarinec. We would like to congratulate fellow member Dr. Michael T. Finikiotis on being named one of the Top 100 doctors in Pennsylvania. We at Branch 89 know how wonderful Dr. Finikiotis is, and we're glad others outside our branch recognize this. Congratulations, Dr. Mike. You deserve the honor. Our Third Annual Golf Outing is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 10, at Westwood Golf Club. We will be joining forces with the Steel Valley Rotary Club with the hopes of enlarging our golf outing and seeking potential members for our branch. We will also have an early bird discount for those signing up early. More information will follow. Here are just a few more activities in the planning stages for the branch: all-night cosmic bowling, a weekend trip to New York City and a night at the casino. If there is enough interest, we would like to have a "dine around the area" night. We would choose a different restaurant each month and go there for dinner and some good times. While we may not be as big as some of the other branches, we are still strong, and we look forward to meeting a lot of our members in the upcoming year at some of these events. We are also planning a fundraiser for early fall, selling "State-Wide Gulyás" prepared by Chef János and his cast of merry men. We will be taking orders soon. What better way to start the fall season than with a good slice of bread and gulyás? More information to come. We are proud to report that Branch 89, instead of giving Easter Baskets to those less fortunate, gave a $25 gift card to a worthy member of the First Hungarian Reformed Church. It was a great feeling knowing how much this donation would brighten someone's Easter. In June, we are planning on joining with the local Boy Scouts to have our very own Hands Across America Day event. We will be going to the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead and conducting beautification projects. We hope all of our members will come out and help support this event. Branch 89 continues to collect codes from Coke products. These codes will be turned into points which can then be redeemed for various merchandise and prizes to be awarded at our outings. Thanks to all who have helped us so far. Anyone with any codes can email them to me at maskarinacl836@comcast.net or send them to 1836 Timothy Drive, West Mifflin, PA 15122. We are also collecting Kellogg's Family Rewards Points. The codes are found inside boxes of Kellogg's, Keebler, Sunshine and Morningstar Farms products featuring the Family Rewards insignia. Just cut out the code and mail it to us. We wish all fathers a very Happy Father's Day. Please contact the branch coordinator if you'd like to see other activities, and we'll do our best to accommodate those requests. For any of your life insurance needs, please call Ruth Toth at 412- 872-5022. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Debbie Lewis Hope everyone is having warm weather even though summer doesn't officially start till June 21. Now is the time many families are taking vacations, so please be safe in all your travels. Drive safely and watch for kids playing outside, riding their bikes or chasing a ball into the street. We congratulate the Columbus team on their first-place finish at the WPA bowling tournament. Team members were Diane Walker, Chris Boso, Jimmy Lewis and Rick Lewis. We also had three juvenile bowlers participate this year: Dylan, Tyler and Brooklyn Boso. Congratulations to all the bowlers who participated to make this another fun event. After the bowling on Saturday, we had another fantastic barbeque at the hotel with delicious food and beverages. It was great seeing everyone again. Special thanks to Endre Csornán and his committee for all their hard work to make this another great fraternal event. Our next meeting is scheduled for June 3 at 5:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 365 Woodrow Ave., Columbus. The Hungarian Reformed Church will be hosting another Soup & Learn Program after the 10:00 a.m. service on June 8. Soup will be served at 11:15 a.m. followed by a program at 11:40 a.m. entitled "Life Stories of Local Hungarians." The speakers will be Rosalie Rinehart, William Penn Life 0 June 2014 0 23
