Branch News parishioners and their children, five members of the Knights of Columbus and six landscaping committee members, a lot was accomplished in just a few days time. The group planted hydrangeas, viburnum, lilac bushes, dogwood, lamium, cimicifuga, pachysandra, hostas, daylilies, ornamental grasses, low grow sumac, goat's beard and roses. Plus, all areas were given a layer of mulch. Not only was this an opportunity for adults and youth to come together to beautify several areas around St. Mary's, but also everyone got a better understanding of what fraternalism is all about. The church's business manager, Rosa Herman, formally recognized our branch's generosity in the May 13 parish bulletin. Every parishioner at St. Mary's will benefit from these beautiful landscaping improvements for years to come, and the kids had a lot of fun getting their hands dirty. Our branch is very proud to have been a part of this project and will enjoy the efforts of all those who participated in the plantings every time we go to church. If it's decided we'll have a steak fry this year, then members will be notified of the date and time. Deepest sympathy to Evelyn Seitz and family on the loss of Harold Seitz. People in Clarion will remember Harold as the friendly mail man and avid fisherman. It is with great pleasure that we congratulate National President George S. Charles Jr. on receiving the Abraham Lincoln award, presented by the American Hungarian Foundation, and to Endre Csornán, National V.P.-Fraternal, on receiving the Officer's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary. Mr. Charles and Mr. Csornán are truly two amazing men, and we've all benefited from their expertise. We are truly blessed to be born in America and to enjoy freedom. As we know, freedom is never free. This 4th of July, let us never forget the men and women who served and died for our freedom. Independence Day honors the birth of the United States, so with that I will say I love America and happy birthday to all our members also born in July. Since we have so many members celebrating birthdays, I am not going to list the names. Instead, I will end with some "words of wisdom" from Phyllis Diller: "I'm at an age when my back goes out more than I do." Happy Birthday to all! I live in Pittsburgh, but as most of our members already know, I work in most areas. The branch news would not be complete without informing our members of the great WPA annuity interest rates and our low fraternal insurance rates and specials. If you have any insurance certificates that you would like to have reviewed free of charge, or if you have questions on retirement plans, IRA's or any of our products, you will always have my undivided attention. I can be reached at 412- 821-1837 or P.O. Box 15060 Pittsburgh, PA 15237-0060.
