Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Debbie Lewis Hope everyone is having a great summer. Now is the time many families are taking vacations, so please be safe in all your travels. Our branch again participated in two projects for Join Hands Day. On May 12, flowers were planted and flower beds were mulched at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Columbus. Also, on June 2, we cleaned out flower beds, planted flowers, mulched, removed railroad ties and replaced them with a landscaped garden brick wall at the YMCA in Urbancrest. It all turned out really beautiful. Our branch also provided lunch for approximately 20 volunteers. These activities are a great way to give back to the community. The Columbus Hungarian Picnic will be held at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 365 Woodrow Ave., Columbus on July 21 from noon to 7:00 p.m. There will be Magyar foods (kolbász, cabbage rolls, kiflis, etc.) plus entertainment provided by musicians from Cleveland and the Dayton Dancers. There will also be karaoke, face painting and Hungarian items for sale. This will be a great time, so please plan to attend. On Sunday, Aug. 12, there will be another Soup and Learn Program also at the church. This will be after the 10:00 a.m. service. Soup will be served at 11:15 a.m. with a 90-minute program starting around 11:40 a.m. It will include a presentation on the Kodály Method of teaching choral music. That will be followed by a performance of the Columbus Children's Choir, which performed at the White House in December. Don't forget, we are in the process of organizing a bus trip to the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest on Sept. 8 at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. It is really a great time of fun, food and fraternalism. We will be working with the Dayton branch to fill the bus, so if you are interested, please get your reservations in by Aug. 5. The cost for the trip will be $25 per person. Also, the admission to the Picnic is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for children under 12. If you are interested, please contact Marge Boso at 614-875-5068. We extend congratulations to all those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. Let's start with April 21 when we had our Mother's Day and Father's Day project with our youth. It was a great day. We had pizza and soda. We made homemade, pink hand lotion for our mothers and put the lotion in decorated bottles. Then we made key chains for our dads. It was amazing to see the creativity from our youth members. Everyone was working so intensely you could hear a pin drop. It was an amazing afternoon on many fronts. The parents loved their gifts. We already have the project planned again for next year. Special thanks go to my crafting partners and WPA members Karen Kuritar and Karen Vance. You guys are the best! The Magyar Club held its Spring Dance on April 28, which was a great success. The George Bátyi Band was wonderful. It was great to hear the sound of the cimbalom, live. Many thanks to all of you who participated by helping or attending. Our Join Hands Day project was conducted on Saturday, May 19. We 20 ° July 2012 0 William Penn Life
