Branch News all you do for your families. Armed Forces Day is May 19. This is a day we pay special tribute to the men and women who serve our country. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers that they will all return home safe. Memorial Day is May 28. This day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Please remember all of them on this special day. Don't forget May 31 is the deadline for all members applying for a scholarship grant for the 2012- 2013 academic year. This is a great program for our members that are continuing their education after high school. The Hungarian Reformed Church, located at 365 Woodrow Ave. in Columbus, will be having a Chicken Paprikas Dinner on May 20 at noon. This is sponsored by the Church Women's Guild. Reservations are needed by May 13. Call Janet at 614- 875-0727. Also, on June 10 after the 10:00 a.m. service, the Hungarian Culture Association will be hosting a Soup & Learn Program. Soups will be served at 11:15 a.m. The 90-minute program begins about 11:40 a.m. Topic: "Life Stories of Local Hungarians Arpad Sibrik and George Vargo." We are in the process of trying to organize a bus trip to the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest on Sept. 8 at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. We would like to see how much interest there would be from the Central Ohio area on who might participate in this bus trip. It is really a great time of fun, food and fraternalism. If you are interested, please contact Marge Boso at 614-875-5068. Our next branch meeting will be June 5. Our meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. at Plank's Cafe located at 743 Parsons Ave. in Columbus. If you are a cyclist, make sure you obey the same laws that motorists are required to obey. Congratulations to Anna Czajkowski who was one of the winners of a recent William Penn Life puzzle contest. Also, congratulations to Laura Czajkowski who was awarded grants from the WPFA Scholarship Foundation for her sophomore, junior and senior years of college. Remember all the men and women who gave theirs live while serving in our nation's military on Memorial Day. Our condolences to the family of Raymond Cukrowics. May he rest in peace. Also, mark your calendar for our annual branch picnic to be held on July 29. Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Mark Schmidt What a busy March and April we had in Dayton. We had record high temperatures in the area that allowed everyone to get out and enjoy all the Hungarian activities: two March 15th commemorative dinners at local Hungarian Churches, a sausage sale, our own Branch 249 cabbage roll sale, local bowling and the very successful Magyar Club Spring Dance. A special thank you is extended to Vice Chairman of the WPA Board William J. Bero for his visit to Branch 249 Dayton, Ohio. He had the opportunity to attend the Old Troy Pike Community Church March 15th banquet and to meet fellow William Penn Association members and other Dayton Hungarians. We appreciate the support provided by the WPA Board, National Officers and Home Office staff. Congratulations to Endre Csornán, National Vice President-Fraternal, for the illustrious award that was presented to him in Budapest by the Hungarian government. We are so proud of him and appreciate all the hard work Endre does to help the people of Hungary by representing William Penn Association. Also, congratulations to National President George S. Charles, Jr. for being honored as the 2012 recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Award at the 49th Carousel Ball in New Brunswick, N.J. This well-deserved recognition was given for his many years of distinguished service to the Hungarian community. We will be having our annual Join Hand's Day activity on May 19.
