Branch News Branch 8 Johnstown, PA by Alexis Kozak Greetings from Johnstown, PA. Happy fall to everyone. We are all hoping for a much milder winter than last year. Thank you once again for another fantastic WPA Picnic. They just keep getting bigger and better. The week of fellowship preparing for the event is priceless. The officers of Branch 8 were honored to attend the 110th anniversary of the Johnstown Hungarian Reformed Church on Sept. 25. Mr. and Mrs. Endre Csornán and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Király also attended. This church has survived all three of the Johnstown floods. Although membership has gone down throughout the years, the members' spirit remains high. There were nine participating ministers in attendance: the Rt. Rev. Bela Poznan , Bishop of the Calvin Synod; the Rev. Imre Bertalan; the Rev. Alexander Jalso; the Rev. Lisa Kerestesi; the Rev. Ilona Komjáthy; the Rev. Albert Kovács; the Rev. Gabor Nitsch; the Rev. John Palkó; and the Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta. After a wonderful ceremony and sermon, a fellowship luncheon was served in the church social hall. Photographs of many past parishioners were on display. How great it was to see those old photos. Many fond memories were rekindled; I know I had a few tears in my eyes. God bless the Hungarian Reformed Church. We wish them continued success on maintaining their heritage. At our branch meeting we celebrated the 75th birthday of Branch President Ernest Kedves (pictured here) with a cake and candles. We also decided to hold our annual children's Christmas party on Dec. 5. Details will follow. Adult members are invited, but you will need to make reservations by Nov. 15. Call Alexis Kozak Clergy from a number of area churches gathered Sept. 25 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Johnstown (Pa.) Hungarian Reformed Church. What a great time, as always, at this year's WPA Picnic at Sicenic View in Pennsylvania. It was a beautiful fall day with great food, fun and entertainment. The number in attendance grows every year with more opportunities to make new friends. Our thanks go out to all who put their time and effort into this wonderful event. Our local branches held a combined picnic and bacon fry on Sunday, Sept. 19, with the Ohio Valley Hungarian-American Club at Warren Township Park. The picnic began at noon with a great buffet of food followed by the bacon fry later in the afternoon. It was another beautiful day for a get-together. 20 0 November 2010 0 William Penn Life
