WPA Picnic, Scenic View keep getting better MY WIFE, ANN, and I would like to thank everyone involved in the 10th Annual WPA Picnic for a wonderful event. It is hard to imagine how the 2010 event could have been better than the 2009 event, but the hard work of many paid off. The Picnic is a great way to enjoy a mini family reunion. This year, we had family members from several states. Each time we go to Scenic View we find improvements to an already beautiful spot. This year was no exception. The fall decorations and the new signs were outstanding. Please keep up the good work. We are already making plans for next year. Sincerely, David L. Vargo Cincinnati, OH p.s. WPA Folk Dancers enjoy successful year OUR VOLUNTEER performance group travels around the Pittsburgh area to different church functions, multicultural festivals, as well as private events, and we thank our family at William Penn Association for continuously supporting our efforts. We greatly appreciate your help with our performance group's endeavors to share Hungarian culture in different venues. We had 13 performers this year using costumes from the Sárközi and Kalocsai regions, and some of our younger dancers used a floral costume similar to Hungarian village peasants' costumes with a simple white blouse, floral vest with matching floral apron and solid color skirts. This year, the William Penn Association Magyar Folk Dancers had a busy, fun-filled summer dancing and singing at different venues throughout the southwestern Pennsylvania region. In our pre-season, we performed at a local Girl Scouts' event (World Thinking Day) in February and the International Children's Festival hosted by the Pittsburgh International Children's Theater in May. In June, we began our rehearsals and helped the Hungarian Reformed Church of Duquesne celebrate their 100th anniversary. In August, thousands of people flocked to McKeesport's International Village ethnic food festival. This year, we performed twice on the main stage. But we always look forward to the WPA Picnic as the closer to our performance season. We were delighted to help out at school events as well. Some of our older dancers were able to present Hungarian dances at college campuses' multicultural events, like Saint Vincent College's Culture Show and Washington and Jefferson College's International Club's Dinner program. Thank you, Margaret Kurcsics Popovnak Mineral Point, PA Magazine, recipes help us remember our heritage MY PARENTS, Eli and Margaret Furo, started my Verhovay lodge in Gary, W.Va., and I paid the years after I married in Connecticut. I love and appreciate the monthly magazine, including all the recipes. I still bake and cook Hungarian at 85 for all my grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
